Keeping Self Defense Simple

February 4th, 2010 admin No comments

With all the different styles of martial arts, self defense seminars, pepper sprays, stun guns, etc… The idea of practical self defense becomes a bit overwhelming. Don’t dare ask what the best method is, what the best martial art style is, or which products are best, and expect a straightforward response. This topic always sparks a debate among “experts”.

My best advice is to keep it simple. I will refrain from the more traditional “keep it simple stupid”, as it’s not polite to call anyone stupid, especially when it’s untrue. After all, you are reading this and taking steps to ensure your personal safety and security… so that makes you a smarty-pants in my book!

Seriously though, I recommend having your bases covered, with simple strategies that don’t require much movement and thought.

For physical self defense techniques, attend several seminars by different instructors. You will get many different viewpoints, and many that are contradictory, but you will see the commonalities in all, and those will be what you want to stick with.

As far as self defense weapons go, get something that is easy for you to use and is proven effective. The more complex it is to use, the harder it will be to use in a real situation. In my opinion, having a self defense kit is the best idea. These typically come with a pepper spray, stun gun, and personal alarm. Depending on how you dress and where you’re going, you’ll have the right tool to carry. Please train yourself how to use it though, I can’t stress that enough.

Finally, make sure you have the mindset to protect yourself. I was at the store this weekend, and noticed a couple of guys kept walking past this attractive woman who was talking on her cellphone and oblivious to the situation. She had no idea she was being stalked. Granted, the store has security cameras, but what about the parking lot… they could have walked out, got in their car, and followed her. Please, stay aware.

Just keep in mind, that the simplest ideas can be the most effective. So keep it simple!

Self Defense Products As Part of Your Self Defense Strategy

February 4th, 2010 admin No comments

The right to defend oneself and ones’ property is a God given right and one of the most basic rights of a free society along with the right to bear arms. Men have always had to protect everything from his life to all his possessions.

Today we depend on laws, a civilized society and the police to help protect us. However police resources are spread thinner each day. Individuals must assume more responsibility for their own safety and security and that of their loved ones.

Where do non lethal self defense products fit into your self defense strategy?

Self defense products are an integral part of the strategy. Stun guns, pepper sprays, personal alarms, etc have their place for sure. You also need to know how to use them and practice using them so when the time comes you are ready and act reflexively.

Another key ingredient is learning some basic self defense techniques that can build your confidence. Self Defense DVD’s allow you to learn in the comfort of your own home at your own pace from world class instructors.

I have long been a proponent of teaching school age children basic self defense skills in school then repeated for several years

Once you have the basics get a friend and practice using your self defense training, practice using your pepper spray or stun gun. If and when the time comes to defend yourself you want your instincts to take over and react not stop and think about what to do.

If you take these steps you will take a giant leap in building your confidence in and your actual ability to defend your self and your family.

Crime’s Primary Order of Importance – Crimes Against Persons

February 4th, 2010 admin No comments

Crimes against persons always take precedence over other crimes. A high level of priority is given to preventing and punishing offenses committed against persons. Homicide is one of the most serious crimes against persons.

In order of importance, I will describe the following crimes against persons:

Homicide Robbery Assault Sex Offenses Crimes against children The serial offender

A homicide is a generalized term to refer to the killing of a human being. Murder is a specific kind of homicide. It refers to the killing of another human being with premeditation or during the commission of a felony. Voluntary manslaughter is another form of homicide. It refers to the killing of another human being resulting from sudden and violent passion as a result of a serious provocation. There are also two kinds of involuntary manslaughter. One is the killing caused by the commission of an act not considered a felony, and the other is a killing resulting from the commission of a lawful act in an unlawful manner that is likely to cause a death. The central theme of all homicides is the death of a human being.

A robbery occurs when a person intends to steal or take property by the use of force, intimidation, or threat of force, or by sudden snatching. An armed robbery occurs when the perpetrator uses an offensive weapon such as a gun or knife or any device resembling a weapon. O.J. Simpson is back in the news again and is alleged to have committed an armed robbery in a Las Vegas hotel room while attempting to retrieve his personal belongings.

There are two kinds of assault. One is simple assault. Simple assault refers to the intentional violent injury toward another person. The second is aggravated assault which describes simple assault with the use of a dangerous or deadly weapon. For instance, if you are walking down the street and some teenager with too much time on his hands comes out from behind a bush and zaps you with a stun gun or sprays you with pepper spray just for his own amusement, he can get in trouble for aggravated assault.

Sex offenses include rape, sexual assault, sexual battery, and aggravated sexual battery. Depending on the jurisdiction, rape and sexual assault are one in the same. Sexual battery refers to deliberate physical contact with another person’s private parts without that person’s permission. Aggravated sexual battery is the forceful penetration of another person’s sexual organs or **** without their permission.

Child molestation happens when an immoral or indecent event is committed against, with, or in the presence of a child under 16 years old with the intention of arousing or satisfying the sexual desires of either child or adult. Aggravated child molestation refers to molestation that involves sodomy or physically injuring the child.

The profile of a serial offender is Caucasian, male, smart, good looking, and personable. Even after such convicts are put away for life, many times they receive love letters or marriage proposals from women who feel they are in love with the convict. Scott Peterson is a good example of a serial offender who constantly receives these kinds of letters.

The commission of serial crimes range from crimes against property to murder or any combination of these.

Self Defense – Seven Basic Street Moves to Ward Off Surprise Attackers, Even Big Ones

February 4th, 2010 admin No comments

You are suddenly caught in a surprise attack without your personal alarm, pepper spray, or stun gun? Your trusted stab-ready pocket pen is also missing. You feel the paralyzing grip of fear and helplessness coming over you.

Here are seven basic self-defense moves most teenagers and adults can do to free themselves from attackers without much previous training. Some of them are derived from judo, kung fu, tai-kwan-do and other known martial arts. The first four listed below are done mostly when attacked from the front side, the last three, when attacked either from the front or backside.

1. Ear slap. With your fingers tightly closed and slightly cupped, slap both hands sideways atop both of the attacker’s ears simultaneously as hard as possible. The resulting popping or ringing sensation will give you a few seconds to do a knee-to-groin kick or to break free.

2. Eye gouge. With your fists closed tightly and your upward-extended thumbs held close to your fists, try to gouge the attacker’s eyes with your thumbs. If one eye is gouged successfully, you can probably break free, and run. The attacker does not want to go blind or lose an eye. The thumbs are stronger than the fingers, and are less likely to break during a gouging attempt.

3. Throat or nose thrust. Both the Adam’s apple (throat) and nose are susceptible to pain from hard blunt jabs. In either attempt, use your closed fist to hit these areas. The attacker’s nose can also be hit in a slightly upward direction with the palm-heel side of the fist.

4. Groin kick. Bring your knee up into the attacker’s frontal crotch area as hard as possible. This one is meant for male attackers. However, if attacked frontally by a female, you can press your thumbs hard into both sides of the groin section toward the top of the creases between the legs and torso. This latter maneuver is a life-guards way of breaking clutch holds while saving drowning swimmers.

5. Elbow swing. This move produces a powerful blow to the attacker’s head, or to the kidney area, which is on either side of the lower mid-back section. If possible, swing your body together with this blow to increase its power. Otherwise, extend your arm completely across your face, and then bring your elbow back into the attacker as hard as possible as your arm folds back. If aiming for the head, go for the ear, eyes, or nose. An ear blow affects the attacker’s sense of balance in addition to the shock of the blow itself.

6. Arm break. This one takes more skill, but is fairly basic. While facing the attacker, grab one of his or her wrists with both hands (your thumbs are weak points for gripping; you will need both hands). Then, raise the attacker’s arm upward so you can twist yourself under it, and then bring that arm down onto your shoulder as hard as you can. More than likely, you will sprain the attacker’s elbow seriously rather than breaking it. But, either way, it will disable the attacker long enough for you to escape.

7. Foot stomp or ankle-knee kick. Stomp the attacker’s foot arch as hard as possible with one of your heels. It hurts big-time. Otherwise, kick the ankle (it also hurts) or the knee as hard as possible. A sprained ankle or knee will incapacitate the attacker long enough to escape.

Other acceptable street moves include the following,

pulling the hair stabbing with a hairpin or anything sharp biting the flesh with teeth clawing or scratching with fingernails groping for sensitive body-parts and squeeze-crushing them grabbing any nearby object for use as a defensive weapon. By shadow practicing all of these moves, your mind and body will acclimate to fast responses with confidence if attacked. Also, the practice of carrying and using protective devices, like, a rigid ballpoint pen or a small stun gun acclimates escape responses well. Of course, it is always much better to cautiously avoid any kind of potential attack in the first place.

Gangland Chicago – The Historical Allure Of The 1920s

February 4th, 2010 admin No comments

Chicago’s gangster history has fascinated world historians and visitors to the city in equal measure since the 1920s. The trauma of gangland Chicago during the legendary Prohibition decade has been immortalised in a variety of Hollywood movies – thrillingly represented in Brian de Palma’s ‘The Untouchables’ and uproariously spoofed in Billy Wilder’s ‘Some Like It Hot’. But what is it about this decade in Chicago’s history that never fails to capture the national imagination?

For many, the figure of gang lord Al Capone is a large part of the allure. During the prohibition years of the 1920s, when the consumption of alcohol was banned in the United States, Capone effectively ran Chicago as his own town and went on to become the most notorious American criminal of the twentieth century. Over the course of the decade, Capone ran his empire from the Lexington Hotel at 22nd and Michigan Avenues in Chicago and profited from the extensive bootlegging racket that permeated the city. The illicit trade in alcohol, and the huge number of speakeasies (establishments used for the covert selling and drinking of alcohol) that sprang up around the city, played an enormous part in the success of Al Capone’s nefarious gangs.

What’s more, the iconic St Valentine’s Day Massacre in 1929 – now seen as one of Chicago’s most defining moments of the 1920s – has also ingrained itself in the American psyche. This famous incident in Chicago’s history saw the shooting of seven people – six of which were gangsters – in the climax of a hefty rivalry between the city’s two main gangs: Al Capone’s South Side gang and Bugs Moran’s North Side cronies.

Ultimately, Al Capone’s arrest in 1931 for tax evasion led to his downfall, and this is seen by many as an ironic – and somewhat deflating – end to this nefarious gang leader. Essentially, the all-pervasive element of Chicago’s gang warfare during the prohibition years is what makes it so appealing to history buffs – the amazing fact that one man could have had such complete criminal control over one city, and yet be brought down by such a mundane offence.

Of course, the eventual repeal of the prohibition act in 1933 was seen by many as a signal that the first great domestic experiment of the twentieth century had failed; a factor that further pushed Al Capone and his bootlegging gangs into legendary status. Today, many visitors to Chicago are keen to survey the city’s gangland past and discover where old speakeasies were located, and this is relatively easy to do. Simply find a hotel in Chicago to use as your base and explore the old site of the Lexington Hotel, along with Capone’s range of infamous haunts. And while this may appear to be a somewhat macabre vacation theme, it’s nonetheless one that will provide a thrill for anyone who finds a bit of gory American history entertaining.

Lack of Education Contributes to Crime

February 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

As more and more low-income families move into neighborhoods that once catered to the middle or upper class, one must be on the lookout for his own personal safety and report any criminal activity going on in their surroundings. Crime is everywhere in these neighborhoods where kids find too much time on their hands after school hours or after the school year lets out.

What also contributes to the crime rate in such places? Is it just the lack of money for low income families? Sometimes, crime can be attributed to the lack of education on the part of the perpetrator or their families.

It is a statistical fact that the crime rate is inversely proportional to the education level of the culprit. Kids who grow up in families that do not stress the importance of getting an education are more likely to be living out on the streets, doing drugs, joining gangs, or ending up in prison.

Sometimes parents who raise such kids were raised in similar conditions when they were youngsters. Nothing has changed. An education should be foremost on parents’ minds when rearing their kids. In fact, an education is the key out of poverty. As the old saying goes, “The way out of the gutter is with a book and not a basketball.”

Kids who do not have a good education in school are more likely to have difficulty with finding jobs, getting into college, or staying out of trouble with the law. Many times they have family issues that are attributed to the loss of a parent at a young age due to a death or an incarceration.

Kids from single-parent homes run that risk of growing up as an “at-risk” child. This is due to the fact that the parent must work to provide food and shelter for the child, and the absence of the other parent fails to provide leadership and guidance for a growing mind. A parent who is incarcerated will definitely not be around to guide the child to getting good grades in school.

What kind of message does an incarcerated parent send to a child? Is it okay to be dumb and stupid and end up in prison like their daddy? Like father, like son. Right? Is it okay to skip school and join a gang like their daddy once did?

The truth of the matter is that kids who drop out of school will face hardship in their lives as they grow older. Lack of education on their part means lack of money to support a family. Lack of money translates into robbing a bank or convenience store.

We hear in the news every day a robbery that occurs in our city or elsewhere. Or perhaps a shooting on the part of the perpetrator that caused an innocent life come to an abrupt halt.

What are kids doing nowadays? How can we prevent our own kids from becoming troubled kids? For one, a parent must be a good role model and stress the importance of a good education. That means the parents must take an active role in their child’s education by monitoring how much television the child is allowed to watch and taking charge of knowing the kinds of friends that his child associates with. Furthermore, this means maintaining communication with his teachers at school and looking over his report card regularly.

A child with poor academic performance may indicate something wrong at school. Perhaps he does not like school due to external influences; i.e. bullying, difficult teachers, taunting by other students, or peer pressure.

It is better to catch the child’s problem as early as possible before it comes to the point that the child is truant from school, or worse, acts out his frustration that is reflected in another Virginia Tech-like massacre.

A child should like his studies and should show interest in his schoolwork. He should be taught that good grades will help him get a good education so that he can get a good paying job and be a productive member of society after he graduates.

Teach your child that involvement in gangs, violence, drugs, and/or extortion will not get him anywhere but prison. Once a person ends up doing life in prison, there IS no second chance. There is no freedom for him. There is no TV, no video games, no music, nothing! Not even a chance to get an education behind bars. If there is school in prison, the education is very limited.

If you are raising a child, question your child as to what is going on in school if he/she displays academic difficulty. Spend some quality time with him/her. Help them with their homework if possible. Remember, you are not just his/her friend, you are their parents. You are the first role model that a child looks toward from infancy. So be a good one and teach him/her what is right by staying in school.

There is a story in Austin, Texas a few years ago. It involved a troubled 17-year-old kid, Manuel Cortez, a high school dropout, who went out with his friends in a stolen car one sunny afternoon, and shot another student, Christopher Briseno, whom he did not even know because Briseno allegedly was teasing the sister of Manuel’s friend. Manuel Cortez is now serving life in prison because he made a stupid decision. Now families of the victim and the perpetrator are suffering two losses from society. All for what? Because Mr. Cortez chose to drop out of school and associate with gangs and/or violence? He chose to give up the possibility of an education so that he can run around gang banging? Or did he not have the proper support and guidance from his parents?

Smart Devices Provide Dependable Protection Against Attackers

February 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

Do you know someone that has been the victim of a violent crime? Each of us have loved ones or family members that lead busy lives. Whether it be an night out with buddies, working late at the office, or taking night classes, we are all vulnerable to being attacked. Set your mind at ease and carry some non-lethal and legal protection. Most assailants are lazy and easily discouraged when they see that they will pay dearly if they continue their actions.

Pepper Sprays have been standard issue for law enforcement personnel for years. The active ingredient in pepper spray is oleoresin capsicum, the same ingredient that gives chili peppers their kick. These self defense sprays ****** a long stream if fog, liquid, gel or foam, and subdue the assailant, by irritating the mucous membranes. This makes their eyes burn so badly, that they cannot continue the assault, or if inhaled, causes violent gagging.

Pepper Sprays are available in many different containers. They can be found concealed to appear as (lipstick|fountain pens|), pagers, decorative jewelry, or just the plain old spray can. Either way, using pepper spray on an mugger can certainly buy a person enough time to run away and call for help!

Stunguns are popular, but in my opinion, of limited value. These devices require the attacker to get withing arms reach of you. You then have to physically make contact with them, and the jolt is not always effective. I think we’ve all seen the madman in movies shrug off the (stungun|stun-gun) and continue the assault.

TASERS (or Air Tasers) are the self defense weapon of choice today, simply for their record of reliability and effectiveness. Tasers are not considered as firearms, and are therefore legal to carry, without a gun license. After years of testing Taser International has patented a non lethal “Shaped Pulse Technology” that literally removes a person’s muscular self control. The attacker literally flops to the ground, unable to control his own muscles. The Taser pulse is delivered through 2 hook-like barbs that are shot into the attacker. The barbs are connected to tiny insulated wires, which carry the jolt which lasts 30 seconds in the consumer models, giving your loved one’s enough time to run away. If the unit is lost while defending yourself, Taser International will replace it for free!! They are affordable at just under $300, so how can you beat that?

Losing the Right to Defend Ourselves

February 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

My article today deals with products to defend yourself and loved one’s. Its been amazing to me that we have to continue monitoring state laws for changes. Gun laws are the thing that our country is focused on so we have not noticed that passive weapons are being taken away too. There are laws in place that restrict pepper spray. Who are we kidding with these laws? Does anyone really think that if a criminal wants to use pepper spray on you a law is going to make a difference?

I understand this is one of the biggest arguments for anyone that wants to keep their weapons but it never made as much sense as now. The idea behind the law is that criminals are using pepper spray and stun guns to subdue their victims. I don’t know about you but I would much rather be shocked then stabbed or shot. Also if we can defend ourselves without the emotional effects of killing someone wouldn’t that make more sense.

The state of Michigan as an example says that pepper spray can only be a 2% solution and the sprayer no larger then 35 grams. When someone is coming after me I’m not going to worry about how bad it will hurt when I spray a full solution of spray in his eyes. I just want him to stop what he is doing and do it now!

I know most of us have seen videos of criminals that are full of an illegal drug and nothing seems to slow them down. So we are suppose to use a weaker spray on them so it won’t hurt so much? I want that person on the ground screaming in pain because that was what they were about to do to me. A good OC pepper spray with a rating of 2.5 million scoville heat units will stop anyone. Habanera peppers are rated around 300,000 so you can imagine what an attacker would feel and its effects are immediate.

Another good self defense weapon is the stun gun and there are at least nine states so far that have made them illegal for use or very restricted as to who can have them. I have lived in a couple of these states and I don’t remember ever seeing this come across any ballot. Regardless of what people may think crime rates have climbed every year. Assaults, rape, and armed robbery top the list but we are supposed to give up our personal protection weapons. I hope everyone reading this takes the time to look into the laws in your state and work to turn the tide against these trends. But please take the time to contact the politicians in your area and tell them your concerns. We should as American citizens at least have the right to defend ourselves.

What Are The Different Types Of Non-Lethal, Self-Defense Products

February 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

Lets begin with the purpose of carrying a self-defense product. Statistics reveal that property crimes have fallen while violent crimes continue to rise. Violent crimes include murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault. This is personal! It is most unfortunate that in this day and age we have to continually look over our shoulder. However, we do. The key to self-protection is Prevention. One way Prevention can be obtained is through the carry and use of a non-lethal self-defense product. By this, I mean carrying Mace, pepper spray, a personal alarm or a stun device, which can not only save your life but can play a huge role in the Prevention of a crime. Before the crime is committed… Prevent it! If an assailant sees that you carry some type of self-defense product, they might think twice before proceeding to commit the crime.

There are many types of self-defense products on the market today. There are a variety of pepper sprays that come in various strengths and sizes. There are also a good variety of personal alarms and stun devices, such as stun guns.

Mace and/or pepper spray comes in strengths from a 2% to 18% OC solution. OC is the main ingredient in defensive sprays. It is a derivative of the cayenne pepper, the hottest pepper in the world. However, the strength of the defensive spray does not necessarily mean that the higher percentage of OC in a spray…. the hotter. On the contrary, the OC percentage is a measurement relative to the other ingredients in the canister, such as tear gas or UV dye. The OC concentration does not measure the concentration of the other active ingredients in the spray. The effectiveness of a defensive spray is the quantity or concentration of Capsaicin. The higher the concentration of Capsaicin the hotter the OC spray. Defensive sprays also come in different sizes and types. The most popular type is the quick key release keychain pepper spray. One of the newest is the lipstick pepper spray. It looks like a lipstick container, however it is not. There are defensive sprays you can carry in your purse, on your keychain or on your belt. There are sprays with a leatherette holster, or sprays with a hard case or injection-molded holster. There is even a container that resembles a small baton. The sizes can be various as well. You can get ½ oz., 2 oz., 4 oz., and even larger canisters of spray (spray, foam, stream or gel). Check with your locality or jurisdiction for restrictions and legality of defensive sprays.

There are a variety of personal alarms as well. There is the Mace Brand Screecher Alarm, which is an aerosol alarm that emits an ear-piercing blast that is recognized as an emergency call for help and can be heard up to ½ mile away. The best deterrent is the combination of a 125db alarm and a flashing light, known as the Keychain Alarm. There is the 2N1 Alarm, which is a dual-purpose alarm that acts as a personal alarm and a burglar alarm. You’ve got the Personal Alarm With Flashlight that emits 130db of sound and the Electronic Pocket Whistle, which emits a loud 120db whistle.

Stunning devices are also very popular. However, some states have restrictions regarding the possession and/or purchase of these products. Before purchasing a stun gun you need to check with your locality or jurisdiction to see what or if any restrictions apply. Stunning devices can mean stun guns or tasers. Stun guns come in a variety of sizes and voltages. They come as small as the palm of your hand or as large as 8.75 inches tall. Voltages range from 100,000 volts to 1,000,000 volts. Almost all stun guns have safety switches and wrist straps. Tasers are a little more difficult to explain as far as the operation and legality of the unit. Most tasers have restrictions similar to stun guns. That is because it is considered a stunning device just like a stun gun. Again, check your locality for restrictions and legality.

There you have it. Now what type of pepper spray, personal alarm or stun gun would you choose? It can be difficult with all of the different types, strengths, sizes, sounds and voltages. Choose the self-defense product you think you will be most comfortable using, carrying and/or wearing. Again, do not forget to check with your locality or jurisdiction regarding the restriction and/or legality of defensive sprays and stunning devices.

Use of Tasers Vs Lethal Force in Law Enforcement

February 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

Crime has come a long way to make its root firmer in society, and has forced law enforcement agencies to take up arms against criminals. Some of the countries arm their law enforcement officials with the latest and deadly weapons, which fall in the category of lethal force. The use of tactical weapons has become necessary because crime is not just about snatching bags anymore. Crime has also become techno-savvy and criminals have started to use some of the best weapons in the market. If we look at the top 10 countries with high rate of crime then the numbers are astoundingly high.

1. Iceland 14,726.95

2. Sweden 13,455.08

3. New Zealand 12,586.64

4. Grenada 10,177.89

5. Norway 10,086.72

6. England & Wales 9,823.38

7. Denmark 9,460.38

8. Finland 8,697.37

9. Scotland 8,428.97

10. Canada 4,123.97

The above are per 100,000 inhabitants

In the United States itself, the Crime Index Rates have increased from 1,887.2 in the 60’s to more than double, which are 5,897.8 by 1991 and this is per 100,000 inhabitants. In 1991, the crime rate in the US was 313% more than the rate in 1960. Crime rate in other countries of the world have also increased considerably in the last couple of decades.

For more than a few decades, law enforcement agencies in the US and in other countries across the world have been using automated weapons to fight criminals and this has resulted in loss of life on either sides. An NIJ report has confirmed that the US federal government spends approximately $75 billion on the different law enforcement agencies as well as the judicial system. Yet not all the money infused into the system has helped in protecting innocent citizens from becoming the victim. In fact, according to a report, if the overall productivity of the law enforcement agencies could be increased by 1% then it would make a huge positive impact on the crime rate in the US and will even cut down the economic loss by $700,000,000.

The question is how can the enforcement agencies fight crime effectively and without killing the criminal? The answer lies with alternative weapons, which resourceful, effective, inexpensive, and not life are threatening.

The Emergence of Taser

One of the recent problems faced by several law agencies is that of transporting hardened convicts from one prison location to another. There are times when convicts have tried to escape and in the confusion officers had to resort to using their weapons and sometimes inappropriate tactics and use of force, which cause more harm than good and even death in some cases.

This is where a Taser comes in. A Taser looks like a gun but it is an entirely different concept. It is basically a type of electroshock weapon, which can stun a subject from quite a distance. The models being used currently by law enforcement agencies are the M26 and X26. Some of the other models include the Taser C2 and the Taser M18.

The primary reason behind introducing Taser is the fact that they are non-lethal weapons that can be used by law enforcement agencies for subduing potentially dangerous and fleeing subjects like convicts. Taser can considerably reduce the usage of life threatening weapons like the service guns.

The Taser was developed initially by Jack Cover, who was a NASA researcher, in 1969. The modern day Taser can fire two small electrodes, which are connected with a main unit through two conductive wires. They are propelled into the air or towards the subject with the help of small but compressed nitrogen charges. Each of the air cartridges is equipped with two electrodes as well as enough compressed nitrogen to fire a single shot. The air cartridge has to be replaced after use.

Cartridges for the Taser are available depending on the range that you expect to achieve. The maximum range of a Taser is 35 feet or 10.6 meters, a distance at which you can fire it and catch a fleeing convict or criminal. The cartridges available for civilian use have a maximum range of 15 feet or 4.5 meters.

Once fired from the Taser, the pointed electrodes will pierce through the clothing and remain in place because of they are barbed. The latest models of the Taser including the C2 are called ‘pulse’ models and they can pierce through a Level III body armor vest. The Taser gives an electric shock that stuns the subject for a few minutes during which the law enforcement officers can overpower the subject and take him/her into custody.

The Taser C2

The Taser C2 is perfect for independent men and women who require an effective but not life threatening protection device. As of today almost 250,000 law enforcement officials across 40 countries are using different Taser devices including the C2. The Taser C2 is a great weapon for self-defense and is categorized under Electronic Control Devices (ECDs). It can propel wires that will stun the subject and affect the motor and sensory functions of the central nervous system. The Taser C2 is available with a replaceable cartridge that contains compressed nitrogen and two small electrodes and can fire a shot to a maximum range of 15 feet

The range of 15 feet gives the Taser a definite advantage because you can use it the moment you sense danger. You can even use it if someone snatches your bag at the supermarket and tries to flee. This flexibility in firing from a distance makes the Taser C2 an absolute weapon to have. The Taser C2 can protect you or your family from a potentially threatening situation and keep everyone safe.

The Taser C2 technology has been proven to be highly effective in laboratory exercises and in real life situation. It is considered as one of the best weapons for self-defense from a safe distance. Today there are in excess of 500,000 users of the Taser worldwide. The Taser C2 technology has also been supported by several medical reports and medical organizations that have vouched for the general safety that comes with this stun gun. There are no long-term injuries and the subject can recover completely in a matter of minutes.

What gives the Taser C2 the advantage over conventional weapons is that the discharge of electricity can affect the entire body as well as the central nervous system. The best thing is that you can fire it to any part of the body and it will do its job. According to several reports, the Taser C2 was found to be 95% effective during real encounters. . Unlike other Taser models, the Taser C2 will operate for a period of 30 seconds once activated. This special feature is primarily so that once deployed, an individual can drop the Taser C2 and have a 30 second window in which to escape to safety. To enhance this feature even more, Taser International warranties that if your Taser C2 is deployed in an attack, send them a copy of the police report describing the event, and Taser International will replace your Taser C2 free of charge. If a standard stun gun is the biggest selling item when it comes to personal self-defense, it is only because individuals have never tried the Taser.

The Taser M-18

The Taser M-18 is an advanced version of this non-lethal technology. It also uses compressed nitrogen to fire two small electrodes up to a maximum distance of 15 feet. The electrodes are connected with the help of high-voltage insulated wires to the Taser M-18. When the electrodes come into contact with a subject then electrical pulses are transmitted through the wires into the body of the subject and can penetrate 2 inches of clothing.

The use of the Taser M-18 over the years has become increasingly popular with civilians as well as law enforcement agencies due to its high degree of effectiveness and above all there is no bloodshed. It can be used in different situations and can save several lives. Most importantly, the number of deaths in custody, robbing, and theft has gone down due to the use of the Taser M-18. Using guns have never been as effective.

The Taser M-18 has a 100% rating for effectiveness. The Taser M-18 is not only considered as a better option to the automatic weapons being used by law enforcement agents but is also better than the traditional stun guns. One of the quantum leaps in the Taser M-18 technology is the effective stopping power due to the use of a new and advanced Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) technology. The advanced Taser M-18 can shoot 2 darts or electrodes using a 15 feet wire that ensures transfer of 50,000 volts to the central nervous system of the subject. What the Taser M-18 really provides is an incredible power to take down almost any opponent.

As a result of its effective use, Taser devices or guns are being looked at as the next generation weapon. Soon it might replace the conventional colt, Walther, CZ 75B or other automatic handguns and weapons. The Taser is a weapon that can be used for self-defense by both civilians and law enforcement agencies. It is easy to use, more effective than conventional weapons, works at close range and removes any threat to life. Now that’s a weapon of the future!
