Spice Up Your Self Defense With the Firepower of Pepper Spray!

August 31st, 2009 admin No comments
The “heat” or “hotness” of chili peppers and consequently pepper sprays is measured in Scoville Heat Units (SHU) or the Scoville scale, named after the American chemist Wilbur Scoville. The presence of the chemical capsaicin is responsible for this pleasant or unpleasant degree of heat, depending on if you are talking to a hot wings connoisseur or an assailant with pepper spray dripping from his face.

For all you culinary folks or chili eaters, a sweet bell pepper is rated 0, containing no capsaicin. A pimento or pepperoncini is only mildly spicier with a 100-500 SHU rating. Green pepper Tabasco sauce may yield 600-800, regular pepper Tabasco at 2500-5000, and super spicy habanero Tabasco sauce topping out at 7000-8000 SHU. Widely popular jalapeño peppers rate around 2500-8000. BAM! Pure cayenne pepper typically packs enough capsaicin to reach 30,000-50,000, compared to more exotic 50,000-80,000 Thai peppers. Speaking of more exotic peppers, a Naga Jolokia pepper from India ranges from 850,000 to 110,000 and a Dorset Naga may reach 1,600,000 SHU, or 1.6 million units of fiery mouth burning hotness!

Capsaicin in its purest form has a Scoville rating that ranges from 15,000,000 to 16,000,000. Yes, that reads 16 million! The standard grade pepper sprays in the US usually achieve 2 to 5 million SHUs.

Pepper sprays are inflammatory, unlike Mace which is an irritant. Inflammatory agents will cause immediate closure of the eyes and will induce coughing, choking and nausea. Temporary blindness due to dilation of the eyes and the mucous membranes will swell up, effectively preventing all but life support breathing.

The effects may last from 20-45 minutes depending on the pepper spray’s strength. Popular pepper spray products, such as Pepper Shot are rated at 10% strength, boasting a SHU of 2 million. The Wildfire 18% contains enough Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) to achieve nearly 3 million Scoville Heat Units of stopping power. Bear strength Guard Alaska requires a higher concentration for those that venture into the woods, with at least a 20% concentration of capsicum firepower.

There are even triple action self defense sprays incorporating OC pepper, CN tear gas, and a UV marking dye. This potent combination sends your assailant into an uncontrollable fit of coughing and choking while his eyes are slammed shut. The CS tear gas causes a profuse tearing to the already affected eyes, as well as an intense burning sensation to the face. The UV marking dye marks the assailant and may assist in identification once apprehended.

Conveniently, many pepper sprays come on key chains. This is a good idea since most people will usually have their keys with them. But don’t forget about the times you don’t have your keys. The small investment in additional pepper spray may save your life or the life of a loved one! Then you will also always have your pepper spray within easy reach. You can also find covert pepper spray products such as pepper batons (kubotans), pepper pagers, lipstick spray, “Stunning Ring”, and hand weight Hot Walkers for walking and jogging. Pepper spray is also sold in gel stream formulas instead of liquid sprays. Gels have the advantages of longer distance, stronger pepper, very sticky on the target’s face and less contaminating overspray.

However, the best, strongest, and farthest ranged pepper spray in the world will amount to the SHU rating of that bell pepper if you fail to do three simple things: purchase some pepper spray, carry your pepper spray wherever you go and practice using it. This means buying extra pepper spray and actually “waste” it by discharging practice sprays to gauge the range of your product and improve your spraying accuracy. If you are going to under shoot or hit the wall next to an attacker, you mind as well pack your pockets with pimentos. Of course, with the affordability of peppered self defense products and the peace of mind you gain by being prepared, if you do ever find yourself in a pepper, err pickle… you can hardly consider it a waste.

It would be nice to believe that nothing will happen to you, but the reality of it is that an ounce of protection could be worth more than a pound of cure. What is Worth Protection to you? Your belongings? Your family? Your personal well-being?

Don’t be afraid to spice up your self defense, stay safe and be prepared!

How to Protect Against Dog Attacks and Dog Bites

August 30th, 2009 admin No comments
Of all the things going on in my world of self defense and home security products-burglary, rape, assault, self defense, home security, et.al. I get more calls and more inquiries on this topic than any other. To me it is amazing. Yet there it is! IT BLOWS ME AWAY!! HOW TO PROTECT AGAINST DOG ATTACKS AND DOG BITES.

More than women’s self defense, more than self defense, more than home security, more than any other single topic-this is, as they say, the pick of the litter.

Anecdotally the other day I got a phone all from a frantic lady whose daughter and her pit bull puppy were attacked when they went to a doggie park. She was scared to death and her daughters’ dog almost got killed.

I am not going to get preachy here but c’mon. Dogs are animals. Animals have instincts. One of those instincts is to fight and in some instances kill. It makes no difference if your dog is trained or not. When those instincts kick in, dogs will do what dogs do. Best you or your kids not be in the way.

The very first article I wrote about this nearly 18 months ago I recommended a dog pepper spray and a dog repeller that sends out an ultrasonic noise only dogs can hear. That was then.

Now I recommend a full strength Mace Pepper Gel and an 800,000 volt stun baton. The reasons for the change are simple. Dogs that run loose in my humble opinion do not deserve any consideration nor do their owners. Far too many people get hurt or traumatized by charging dogs not on leashes.

Some breeds do not respond well or at all to traditional fixes.

There is no certain way to prevent a dog from charging you and your best friend.

You have every right to do what you need to do to protect yourself and your dog!

Two Different Personal Protection Devices Easily Confused for Each Other!

August 30th, 2009 admin No comments
There are two fantastic and effective battery-operated devices that will shock the hell out of a potential attacker, but many folks confuse the two. A TASER tm which is a brand name and a registered trademark is an electronic device that when fired at someone, it has two tiny metal prongs that shoot out of it, and into the clothing to touch or slightly pierce the skin of the attacker. These probes are connected to tiny, thin wires that connect back to the unit, and then the unit emits a huge amount of electricity that overrides the central nervous system of the person, making them unable to move, walk, talk, or do anything, for a while, maybe as long as 30 minutes. The unit also expels about 25 or 30 tiny pieces of confetti that contain a serial number tracing the use of this device back to the registered owner, and on one can purchase this unit who has a criminal record.

The TASER is an extremely effective device to “take down” a potential attacker, and the units cost between $300 and $500 on average. There is a registration process to obtain one of these magnificent items, and the cost is worth the peace of mind that it affords.

Then there is the stun gun, and equally effective device that is much less expensive to purchase and does not require any type of registration, at least in most of the fifty states where they are legal. There are a few states which do not allow stun guns, or the other item mentioned, for that matter, however most states do permit their use. The stun gun is usually about the size of a garage door opener, and is sometimes disguised as a cell phone, flashlight, and there are few other varieties as well. They have a safety switch, in most models, and then a button to push as you are touching the two electrodes to the person who is attacking you.

Stun guns emit a huge amount of electricity into the body of the attacker, and this also causes an overload to his central nervous system, causing him to lose control of his muscles, and he becomes incapacitated for up to thirty minutes, as well. The voltage can be anywhere from 100,00 volts, depending on the model, all the way up to a million volts, and some are even higher than that. Neither of these great self defense products will cause any long term harm or damage to the unlucky attacker, but he will be out of commission for at least a good half hour after the blast! That’s enough time for the person defending themselves to get to safety.

So, whether you buy a stun gun, a TASER, or even a pepper spray, OR all three, you can buy them from a great website such as…

Youth Self Defense – How To Keep Your Child Safe Without Placing Them In Danger

August 30th, 2009 admin No comments
So, how does youth self defense keep your child safe and not put them in danger? Read on and find out what is needed to protect your child from your child and everyone else.

With the introduction of the internet came international access to a variety of self defense products and defensive devices to protect all types of men and women. Items such as stun guns, Tasers, pepper spray and expandable steel batons have become a common assistant for many Americans. While these devices are great and most are very effective, they do have one huge drawback – they are not for children. So, how do you keep your child safe if they cannot carry the items made to keep people safe? The crazy thing is that children are most vulnerable and perhaps need the devices more than anyone. I guess it would be a bad idea to have millions of children running around with Tasers and big steel sticks, but we need to keep them safe nevertheless. Youth self defense will do just that.

I have been asked many times about youth self defense products. I always reply with just about the same answer. When asked my reply is usually “it depends on the age of the child”. A teenager can be taught to use a defensive device that is legal for almost anyone such as a kubotans or perhaps they may be served best by a good self defense course. If your child is younger it is best to educate them about the dangers of life including walking home from school and even being home alone. Education and awareness of ones surroundings are the keys for any successful self defense situation regardless of age.

After informing your child of the dangers of the world you may also want to arm them with a personal alarm and/or a quality youth self defense class. There are many personal alarms on the market today that will be an effective tool for children. My personal choice for a child would be the Stun Factory Banshee personal alarm. This devise is very small, comes in bright colors that kids like and is easily activated. When the strap is pulled, a small metal pin is pulled out of the alarm triggering its very loud siren. One of the best features is that when the strap and metal pin pulls out, it does not come out the entire way, preventing your child from losing the trigger strap. Other personal alarms will also be effective for children and some even come with strobe lights and other visual warning signals. Whatever alarm you choose be sure that it is at least 120 Db, any less and it may not be an effective youth self defense device. To find a self defense class for your child you can check your local phone book. There are classes designed just for children of almost any age. I suggest sitting in on a class before signing up to see if the instruction is what you are looking for.

Now you can arm your child without worrying if they will end up shocked, sprayed or knocked in the head by a baton. Using some of these youth self defense tips should provide a good start to protecting your child and keeping them safe from themselves. I must stress again that education and awareness of your surroundings may just be the most important thing you can do to keep them safe.

Why Choose a Taser

August 30th, 2009 admin No comments
An individual’ personal safety should be their primary concern. As a society we are becoming more aware of the dangers that we can face, and the methods of protection are expanding. Although any effort to protect yourself is a step in the right direction, some options are more effective than others.

As you start to contemplate a method of protection, it is important to remember that this is a very serious undertaking. In selecting a self defense tool the first consideration is your own level of strength. In a moment of danger, you want to ensure that the item will be effective, irrespective of the circumstances.

Until someone experiences actual danger they cannot gauge what their response will be. That is why, the best method of protection is the one that works consistently, in all situations. A tool that is simple to use will guarantee that you will able to defend yourself, no matter what.

A taser will enable you to protect yourself whether you are injured, confused, or otherwise incapacitated. It requires the minimal amount of skill and strength to operate, which means that you will be protected every time. In addition, because they are so easy and require little personal strength they are a perfect option for any age or ability.

Tasers are easy to use, effective, and safe. They do not require that the individual be in close proximity to their attacker which means that an assailant can be stopped at a distance. After the electrodes are in contact with the assailant, every pull of the trigger delivers a 50,000 volt charge for five seconds. The effect of one trigger pull is generally enough to keep a full grown male confined to the ground while you run to safety.

Unlike stun guns that require the victim to be close to the assailant to apply the tool directly to the body, tasers can be employed from several feet away. The actual distance depends on the model, but a common expanse is twenty-five feet for police tasers. The gun taser shoots small electrodes at the assailant, thereby connecting them and the gun through metal wires.

As a non-lethal protection tool taser will not kill or maim the assailant. They have been used by law enforcement officers as a safer alternative to brute force for many years. They are also safe for the user and for any bystanders.

Whether you are in the market for a taser, or are simply gathering information for a future purpose it is important that you seek out reputable merchants. A great place to look is at http://bljsselfdefense.com/index.php?target=categories&category_id=2 This company offers a wide variety of items, including tasers, and provides consumers with education on self defense. In addition to the online resources, BLJ’s Enterprises supplies its customers with personal attention to help ensure that they receive the self defense tool that is right for them.

Top Personal Protection Gifts This Holiday Season

August 30th, 2009 admin No comments
It goes without saying that you want your loved ones to be safe, when they’re at home and especially when they’re away. With the current economy and the upcoming holiday season, it’s more important than ever to take precautions against theft and other forms of attack.

Presented below are personal protection gifts that give anyone an added security and advantage for responding when events take a turn for the worse. Personal protection gifts  make great gifts, affordably priced and easily gift-wrapped. But the peace of mind they’ll give you – and them – is a priceless gift that they’ll appreciate for years to come.

Pepper Spray and Capsicum – Personal protection items are an urban necessity for women and men alike, especially when moving out and about during the busy holiday shopping rushes. Pepper spray, a powerful deterrent against personal attack, is available in canisters that affix neatly to key chains and cell phone clips. Pepper spray is even available concealed in a LipStick case.

Pepper spray works by rapidly disbursing a stream of very concentrated chili pepper into an adversary’s eyes. The result is very painful and can take a great effort to soothe, but it’s ultimately not permanently damaging. Pepper spray is sometimes sold under the names OC spray, capsicum spray, or OC gas. A very effective protection device to ward off violent attack.

Stun Guns and Tasers – Stun guns and tasers are technology that are available to consumers today. Using powerful jolts of electricity to disable an opponent, these non-lethal but completely effective personal protection tools are affordably priced at many online personal protection outfitters. Always make sure your buying from an authorized taser dealer.

Like pepper spray, tasers and stun guns should be used properly and handled with extreme care. They are not toys, and should not be used by children.

Tactical Batons – A favorite of law enforcement personnel for years because they offer a more aggressive form of counter-attack, tactical batons are compact in storage but provide an effective deterrent against belligerent behavior. They’re available in several styles and models, including the most famous telescoping model. Their stainless steel construction makes them durable enough to last for years and survive the most challenging incident.

Personal Alarms – Providing a more non-violent response to personal attacks – while also offering a powerful deterrent – personal alarms are compact sirens, whistles and klaxons that deliver an attention-getting noise at a moment’s notice. Personal alarms are allowed in airplanes, schools and government buildings.

Many alarms are small enough to fit on keychains, and some include flashlights and carabineer clips for additional utility. They are battery powered but highly energy efficient. Many are affordably priced.

Diversion Safes – The hottest trend in home security, diversion safes are small safe-boxes cleverly camouflaged as ordinary household items. Some resemble typically mundane garage items such as cans of motor oil or engine fluid; some are built to perfectly resemble garden stones. For the inside of the house, some models take the shape of hardcover bound books.

Diversion safes offer a unique gift-giving opportunity as well. Rather than gift-wrapping, they can be placed in a house or yard according to their function. The gift giver can then invite the recipient to guess where the gift is. The revelation of its actual purpose will provide instantaneous surprise and also instruction on its use.

Batons for Self Defense

August 30th, 2009 admin No comments
Contemplating a method of protection is a very serious undertaking. If you are considering such a purchase you need to evaluate your options very carefully. When selecting a tool for self defense the first thing is to consider your own level of strength. For example, a tool that requires minimal strength such as a stun gun would be ideal for a small woman, whereas someone confident in their strength may be more drawn to items such as batons.

A baton is a very simple and effective tool. In the most generic form it is a blunt stick that is used for close contact defense. There are a wide variety of batons on the market that vary in length and offer different features. For example, an asp baton is a lightweight and conspicuous tool that can be comfortably carried. This added consideration for comfort allows citizens to carry an effective self defense tool without drawing attention to themselves.

The baton you choose should have an easy to grip, no slip handle so that it can be wielded effectively with agility. It is also important that the baton have a low profile appearance so it does not announce itself to the attacker. Finally, the baton should not have any sharp edges that could cut you, the assailant, or an innocent bystander. Your goal is to defend yourself long enough to get away to safety and a blunt baton will achieve this effectively without resorting to permanent damage.

One of the most important effects of any self defense tool is the deterrence effect. It has been said over and over again that criminals are cowards and they look for easy victims. A person who carries a self defense weapon walks with confidence because they know they are safe. In addition, the very site of a tool such as a baton will make the assailant think twice. Why would they attack you and risk injury to themselves when there are hundreds of unarmed victims? Arming yourself sends the message to assailants everywhere that you are not a victim.

When searching for a merchant that carries batons it is important that you seek one who is reputable and abides by national laws. A great place to look is at http://bljsselfdefense.com/index.php?target=categories&category_id=63.com This company offers a wide variety of items, including batons, and provides consumers with education on self defense. In addition to the online resources, BLJ’s Enterprises supplies its customers with personal attention to help ensure that they receive the self defense tool that is right for them

Taser Guns Stop the Bad Guys

August 29th, 2009 admin No comments
Turn on the TV these days, and what do you see? Are you able to go for five minutes before there is a story about at least one personal attack, mugging, robber or murder? Not lately.

With crime on the rise everywhere, normal people are looking for protection. It used to be that the only choice you had was the choice between a gun, a frying pan or whatever you could grab to distract your attacker. This is no longer the case. Products that were not available to the public several years ago are now more readily available. One of the most reliable products available today is the Taser Gun.

Once used only by police or military, the Taser Gun is an effective, easy to use 50,000 volts of power to the attacker, overriding the central nervous system and rendering the attacker incapacitated for at least long enough to allow you to get away and get help.

The Taser Gun has some built in protection for the user, as well. In addition to stopping your attacker in their tracks, it leaves behind Anti-Felon Identification Tags that disperse after a Taser cartridge is discharged, helping the police to recognize the owner of the Taser. This keeps them from falling into use by criminals. In addition, background checks and registration ensure that individuals on felony and terrorist watch lists cannot easily purchase these weapons. In addition, free training in conjunction with local law enforcement, is provided by a few companies who sell Taser Guns.

Taser-A Weapon To Protect Or To Kill

August 29th, 2009 admin No comments
Taser is an electroshock weapon device that is used by the police forces. It is supposed to be a less-lethal weapon, compared to standard firearms, for the suspect and also for the surrounding civilians. A Taser shoots two dart like electrodes connected to the weapon with wires, the electrodes penetrate skin or clothing and then shock the suspected person. It is absolutely safe… almost.

It is supposed to lower the possibility of death but somehow the cases of death when using this weapon occur. This weapon was first put on usage by the police in 1999, since that there have been many arguable situations with taser usage. In general there have been over 300 confirmed taser deaths in the world between 2001 and 2007, the cause in most of them is disputed, but they all occurred after taser usage.

The most infamous incident with death after Taser usage occurred in Canada at the Vancouver International Airport on 13 October 2007. Robert Dzieka?ski, a 40 year old Polish immigrant, who had a 14 hours flight and over 10 hours at the immigration service, had a panic attack and was tasered five times by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers. He spoke no English and the officers haven’t even tried to communicate with, the paramedics came too late. The situation was filmed on a cell phone and later posted on the web. The whole situation was a big international scandal, but the main problem was not the security officers, or the medics, or the Airport employees. The main problem was the Taser.

Another Canadian case just two month away from the tragedy in Vancouver Airport, occurred on October 14th, 2007, when Quilem Registre, 39 years old, was stopped in Montreal’s St-Michel district with suspicion of driving under the influence. He was tasered six times and died four days later in at Sacré-Coeur Hospital. The versions of the family members and the police officers are different, but that is not the point, the point is why the police have fired six shocks, when one is supposed to be enough. It can be expected psychologically, the officers are used that the firearms are deadly and tasers are safe, so the officer is naturally firing more shots to be sure that the target is hit and incapable of resistance.

This small analysis demonstrates that even the safest measures can be not safe. The police units definitely need additional training with this weapon before it is used on the streets. The main problem of the modern technologies (from personal care to space technologies) is that money is the key point; if something is developed the company needs to sell it as soon as possible so the money spent on development is covered. That’s why sometimes the products lack additional testing, even when lives are on the line. After the incident at Vancouver International Airport, the Toronto Police and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, have put large orders of tasers for on hold, but that will barely be a good news for the families of the taser victims.

Tasers and Its Discovery

August 29th, 2009 admin No comments
Taser was invented by Jack cover in 1974. He was a researcher in Nasa. The Taser works on the principle of Electro Muscular Disruption technique. It generally stimulates our motor and sensory nerves which leads to muscle contraction. Stun guns and other self defense products have less effect on high pain tolerance people like drunkers and druggers. Taser guns are effective on such kind of persons. The Taser contains two dart electrodes which generates electronic pulses. These electronic pulses are of fifty thousand volts. when an attacker comes in contact with these electric pulses his muscles are contracted due to which he gets shocked. The impact of these pulses is very quick. They started to show their effect within a second. The effect is temporary or volatile. These guns are largely used by Policemen. Taser guns used by police includes a feature of Drive stun. Because of this unique feature these guns can be set in opposite direction to the target by deployment of air cartridge. The Taser guns differs from the Stun guns in following respect:

Stun guns provides a voltage of 80,000 to 950,000 volts.

The Stun guns are less expensive than Taser guns.

For effective use the target must be very near to the gun but the problem is that the attacker can take it from you and can use against you. But you can use Taser guns far away from the target.

Models Of Taser guns: The popular models of Taser guns are:

1. Advanced Taser M26 guns: This model of Taser guns looks like a a toy gun but this has the capacity to put down the attacker on the ground by passing a charge of 50,000 volts through his body. This Gun can be used to hit the target from fifteen meters.

2. Taser X26: This model contains cartridges which are replaceable. The cartridges contains compressed nitrogen propellants to generate electric pulses.the cartridges are connected to the gun through insulated wire. These guns can target from a range of 35 feet. These guns are generally used by law enforcement agencies. The advantages of this model are:

These are 50 to 60 percent smaller in size than M26 guns.

These are designed in such a way that they can be easily carried by police officers on their duty belts.

The software used in these guns is upgradable.

The gun is fitted with a display which displays the battery level

These guns are highly powerful.
