gggb g asked:
I have read numerous news stories across the country of police officers tasing citizens for minor reasons. If a suspect has a gun, then obviously a police officer is going to use his gun also. So why use tasers to electrocute citizens for minor reasons? According to Amnesty International, more than 144 citizens have died already after being tasered by police.

If you had a taser gun and you were scared for your life would you use it? I know I sure would.
August 9th, 2009 - 9:20 pm
NO !! shoot the SOB’S and save court time.
August 12th, 2009 - 6:26 am
Yes, they are even allow to shut their guns against citizens, so do not get alarmed…
August 12th, 2009 - 10:23 am
YES JUST IN CASE THEY ARE DRUG ATTICS AND ARE GOING TO FIGHT WITH THEM THEY SHOULD USE TASERS
August 14th, 2009 - 10:06 am
only if need be
August 15th, 2009 - 2:02 pm
It better be for damned good reason. You are right if the citizen has a gun so does the police officer. Police are such PIGS!!!!!
August 17th, 2009 - 7:43 pm
if you pose a threat, they should be more than justified. there has been way too many cop shootings
August 18th, 2009 - 11:01 pm
for everything they do, they should be protected..I’d go with the taser.
August 19th, 2009 - 3:20 pm
yeah it depends on the situation if you have a brawl and you already asked them to stop and flashed you badge you will have the use proper force
August 22nd, 2009 - 11:42 am
Tazers are a non-lethal way to get someone to stop doing what they are doing. I think tazers are a good new way that police officers can control the problems in cities.
August 25th, 2009 - 2:16 pm
chh yea i would use a taser if i were a cop and there was some crazy person threating every1. i would be all up on that taser. but… i dunno.
August 26th, 2009 - 6:31 am
I’m sure they deserved it.
August 29th, 2009 - 2:45 pm
No officers should not be allowed to use tasers unless the guy is trying to run away or doin sumtin wrong thats not minor
August 31st, 2009 - 5:47 am
A bullet fired from the barrell of a gun in more likely to kill some one than 100,000 volts.
September 3rd, 2009 - 9:07 am
Nope.
September 5th, 2009 - 11:56 pm
they better not use it on me! i dont think it should be allowed.
September 7th, 2009 - 12:24 pm
It’s up for debate now. What would you do if a person on PCP attacked you? Feels no pain, has the strength of 15 men. It’s going on in Iraq right now with the insurgents. You need all the help you can get when being attacked by mad dogs and mad men.
September 10th, 2009 - 4:44 pm
So they can shock some sense into idiots that can’t spell addicts correctly.
September 12th, 2009 - 10:02 pm
would you rather be shot with a taser or a gun? Gun will kill taser’s a maybe
September 14th, 2009 - 6:18 pm
Sometimes it is necessary. A person could be threatening to harm himself or someone else. A taser won’t kill him but it will render him powerless.
September 16th, 2009 - 8:14 am
sure
September 18th, 2009 - 4:32 pm
How many cops have been beaten to death by people using their bare hands?? Look that one up… they don’t need to use them for minor reasons, but you really have to be there to judge…
September 20th, 2009 - 4:53 pm
Unfortunately, the police can hurt or kill anyone they want, its scary. I do not think they should use tasers; too many unnecessary deaths! What’s wrong with pepper spray for pete’s sake, must they always be so brutal??
September 22nd, 2009 - 7:51 pm
It doesn’t seem quite fair, does it? There really isn’t an ideal situation for an officer to use it on a citizen, so why use it at all? I have heard it (reported on the news) used upon a twelve year old child.
September 24th, 2009 - 3:37 am
If the tasers were replacing the use of their guns – yes! I’d much rather have cops tasing people than unloading their guns on someone only to find out too late that the guy was unarmed and only holding a wallet.
September 27th, 2009 - 10:33 am
They’re out there every day risking their lives to protect me and my family from scum-bags.
They should have anything that helps them.
September 29th, 2009 - 3:46 am
Is that 144 people in the world? However having taken away using deadly force, most restraining holds punching and kicking that does leave the police with talking loudly and tasering.
October 1st, 2009 - 3:47 am
I do not think so. I saw on the news here that an officer has to be shoked with one before they are allowed to carry one. I suppose it would be fine, if they didn’t let all their power go to their heads. I can just see barny from andy griffith now….tassing otis to death.
October 1st, 2009 - 2:41 pm
Yes,yes, yes! If someone is being so much trouble that a taser is needed, too bad they suffer. People need to be responsible for their actions at all times. And as a terrific tv show once stated: If ya do the crime, pay the time.
October 3rd, 2009 - 7:19 am
Yeah, they have to taser themselves, pepperspray, shoot themselves (of course with bullet proof vest) and all that crap before becomeing an officer, so why not use it on citizens and think about they could shoot you instead.
October 6th, 2009 - 11:19 am
You are missing the point, DONT BREAK THE LAW! We as a society have gotten to soft on criminals. People have lost their fear of the justice system. On top of that, a lot of people feel more sorry for the criminal than the victim or the victims family. What happened to us?
October 7th, 2009 - 7:35 pm
The 144 people had other problems. The TAZER Ride is over in 2-5 seconds. It can be re-applied sure. Most ethical officers and agencies have strict policies and guidelines that must be adhered to. Each TAZER has a computer chip that can be accessed and it give the time, date, duration of the Zap. I took the ride for three seconds. It is not fun, and when over, it was over. But I did not want it any more.
IF the suspect has a gun..so do police. The Tazer is way-way-out of the question with a very few exceptions.
October 10th, 2009 - 8:05 am
The problem is that we believe the police to be honest, and they aren’t any more honest than the rest of us. If the police would like to carry tasers, they can, but that shouldn’t be their first tactic. I am also allowed to arm myself.
October 12th, 2009 - 12:18 pm
I totally agree. Every time they use a taser, they are gambling with a person’s life. It’s a stupid risk and irresponsible.
If the police are in danger of losing their life, they should use their GUN!
A taser may or may not kill the person, so why do they use them at all?
That is just as stupid as letting a small child play with a hand gun. You never know what might happen.
City government…..Can you say DUUUUUUHHHHHH???
October 15th, 2009 - 6:37 am
Yes, they should be able to use them rather than guns. If you are in the wrong, you know you could get shot by a police officer…at least with a taser, you have a chance to survive for being an idiot.
October 18th, 2009 - 11:20 am
Only an idiot (non-black idiot) will say that everyone that is physically beaten by cops probably deserve it.
October 20th, 2009 - 9:50 am
Having been an officer for a couple of years when I was younger, I can speak from experience that every situation is different. Those that have never seen what a person on drugs is capable of, or how quickly their attitude and posture can change without warning, would not understand the hazards that the police face daily. A Taser, while painfull, is not deadly force. There is no way for an officer to know the health condition of every citizen he or she will encounter. That would be the same as holding every person responsible for any word spoken that caused somebody’s blood pressure to go up, which leads to ulcers. Instead, perhaps we should ask, would every citizen prefer to enforce the law themselves, and have their every action and word scrutinized? What we private people do everyday, without notice, a police officer is noted and judged for. So, 144 people have died because of the Taser, and how many officers were killed before those Tasers became available? How many officers were killed out of hand by people that the officer had pulled over, when the driver or passenger suddenly pulled a gun without warning, shooting the officer? To answer your question though, I would say that the odds of an innocent person being Tasered is alot less likely than an officer being shot without warning. So yes, an officer SHOULD use a taser, disarming a potentially dangerous situation, this avoiding deadly force from becoming required.
October 20th, 2009 - 11:16 pm
I don’t know how it came to be a policy in the USA to torture our own citizens. Communism has somehow made it’s way into our lives and our government. I would like to know how the checks and balances in our government could have let this torture issue slip through the cracks in our government. I can see using it on the arabs, but not our own citizens.
October 23rd, 2009 - 6:18 pm
I believe they should be able to. It is a lot less deadly than shooting someone. And, after someone is tased, they are checked out by a medical team….at least where I am from. I personally would rather be tased than shot. Police Officers will not tase someone for a minor reason. If the person poses a threat, then the officer has a right to protect himself or herself; just as a regular citizen has a right to protect his or her body. It is tragic that some people die from this, but I believe the consequences are far less great than being shot.
October 26th, 2009 - 10:04 pm
I believe that officers have the right to taser a person if the person is repeatedly non compliant. for example: they won’t stop struggling with the officer while trying to be apprehended, or they will not stop running…after all, why do they run- they have something to hide. Do you see where I am coming from. From personal experience, I’d rather comply than get tased!! And It is a proven fact that in order for an officer to carry a taser in the great state of IL you have to be shot with one.
October 30th, 2009 - 4:08 am
If the officer feels himself in danger, then yes.
I don’t see what this has to do with motorcycles though
November 2nd, 2009 - 12:42 pm
yes. even if the person only walks up and gets in the cops face. the idiot should know better. i know i wouldn’t play around in their shoes.
November 3rd, 2009 - 6:14 pm
More than 100 infants have been killed by airbags.
Amnesty International has no credibility with me. They tend to go after our friends and ignore the sins of Marxists.
November 6th, 2009 - 8:38 pm
As long as the citizen can do back if he/she feels the cop is being a ****.
November 7th, 2009 - 9:01 am
I don’t know….if you were being attacked by a 350 lb. crackhead on the street, and you had the option of being shot at with live rounds, or having a tazer accidentally hit you when the cop shoots the bad guy, which one would you choose?
I think tazers are a safer means of stopping violent criminals in the act than using loaded guns – granted, no weapon is safe – that’s why they call them weapons.
November 9th, 2009 - 11:12 pm
Yes, Daily!
November 11th, 2009 - 9:42 pm
NO! It is very dangerous to taser a motorcycle rider.
They could crash…
You might as well throw a zebra in their path.
November 12th, 2009 - 4:18 am
hmmm tazers and Motorcycles I dont’ see the connection here
