FAQ About Stun Guns

January 16th, 2010 admin No comments

Stun guns are one of the most effective types of nonlethal self defense device. A stun device is a handheld, battery powered device designed to shock the target. The stun gun has two prongs on the end. By touching your attacker with these prongs and pulling the trigger, an electrical current is completed. The current causes your attacker to be unable to control muscle movement, resulting in loss of balance and coordination. The questions and answers below address the most commonly asked questions regarding stun devices.

How long does the device have to make contact? – Although this depends on the voltage of the device, in general, a one second contact will startle the attacker and cause muscle contraction. Two seconds will cause muscle spasms and a disoriented or dazed state. Three or more seconds results in loss of balance and muscle control. This length of time causes loss of balance and complete loss of muscle control. These effects will last for fifteen minutes or more. Low voltage stun device or very large targets may require a slightly longer time period. When using one, however, it is not important to monitor closely the amount of time it is in contact with the assailant. Simply press it against your attacker until the attack stops.

Why isn’t 1,000,000 volts deadly? – They have been touted as one of the most effective nonlethal self defense methods. Most stun guns have a current of between 800,000 and two million volts. Many people wonder why this voltage is not deadly. Although the voltage is high, the amperage is low, only about 3 milliamps. This is far below the amperage necessary to do lasting harm. As a result, the device will not cause permanent harm to the person who receives the electric shock.

Will I get shocked if the attacker touches me? – You will not be hurt, even if the attacker grabs you while you still have your device pressed against his skin. The electrical current is absorbed by the muscles, and will not pass through the body to the holder of the stun device.

Can a stun gun be discharged accidentally? – Stun devices are designed with a safety switch to prevent this possibility. Unless the safety switch is off and the device is turned on, it will not produce a shock.

Will a stun gun work on those under the influence? – Stun guns are still effective on those under the influence of drugs or alcohol. While the exact effects may vary, they have proven to be effective on well over 90 percent of users. Your assailant will simply be unable to fight the effects.

What are the legal restrictions on carrying a stun gun? – Although some stun devices are legal to carry and use for self defense reasons in most states, they are restricted in some areas. You may need a permit to carry a concealed stun gun. If in doubt, contact your local police department.

Can a stun gun be fired multiple times? – Yes, it can be fired multiple times during the same attack, making it an excellent choice for a defending yourself in a situation with multiple assailants. With a fresh set of batteries, there are almost no limits on number of times the stun gun can be used during a single attack.

What is a Telescopic Stun Baton?

January 10th, 2010 admin No comments

The Telescopic Stun Baton is a very interesting self defense device that is primarily for home defense, though it can be carried in a holster for use outside the home. The Telescopic Stun Baton is a rechargeable stun baton that has a long, telescopic shaft that is electrified, which give you a distinct advantage over standard stun guns.

In order to get a good shock when you use a standard stun gun, you have to be right next to the attacker to make contact with the electrodes on the person’s torso or hips. With the Telescopic Stun Baton, an electrified metal shaft extends from about three to eight inches and you can keep the attacker at arms reach, instead of having to be close to them where they could take a stun gun.

The length of the Telescopic Stun Baton expands from thirteen inches to twenty one inches with the push of a button. It actually looks like a small Star Wars weapon. When you push the fire button, the entire shaft will crackle with electricity. With any stun baton, you should not push the button unless you are making contact with a person, as repeated firings in the air will damage the device; kind of like dry firing a baton.

When you fear you are in danger, pull out the Telescopic Stun Baton, expand the shaft, and you have a non-lethal self defense weapon that will shoot 800,000 shocking volts anywhere the shaft makes contact with the attacker. If he tries to grab the shaft, it will shock him and he will let go. Anywhere you touch the shaft to the attacker’s body, it will go through his clothes and the electricity will enter his body and start to immobilize him. The electricity will go through ½ inch of clothing, and will not pass through him and hurt you; it stays in the attacker’s body.

Stun guns use high voltage and low amperage to temporarily disable an attacker for several minutes. The stun baton does not rely on pain for results. The energy stored in the baton is dumped into the attacker’s muscles causing them to do a great deal of work rapidly. This rapid work cycle instantly depletes the attacker’s blood sugar by converting it to lactic acid. In short, he is unable to produce energy for his muscles, and his body is unable to function properly.

The stun baton also interrupts the tiny neurological impulses that control and direct voluntary muscle movement. When the attackers neuromuscular system is overwhelmed and controlled by the stun baton he loses his balance. Should the attacker be touching you, the current will NOT pass to your body!

A shock of 1/4 second will cause minor muscle contractions and have a repelling effect. A moderate blast of 1 to 4 seconds will cause an attacker to fall to the ground and result in some mental confusion. It may make an assailant unwilling to continue an attack, but he will be able to get up almost immediately. A full charge of 5 seconds can immobilize an attacker, cause disorientation, loss of balance, fall to the ground, and leave them weak and dazed for some minutes afterward. Plenty of time to let you make your escape.

What Is A Stun Gun And What Does It Do?

Susan Eaton asked:

A woman is attacked every three minutes. How can we as women stop this or prevent this from happening? Crime is on the rise and we do not believe this will stop anytime in the near future. However, prevention is key. We do not mean that you should stay in the house, lock the doors and never come out. We mean take precautions, always be aware of your surroundings and carry some kind of self-defense product. We **** to admit it but most men are physically stronger than women. Lets talk about carrying a stun gun. A stun gun is a non-lethal self-defense product used by millions of people today.

A stun gun is an electrical self-defense device that uses high voltage to stop an attacker. Touching a person with the prongs of the stun gun quickly immobilizes the attacker. However, because the amperage is very low, no serious or permanent injury is inflicted.

The stun gun is designed to key into the nervous system. It dumps its energy into the muscles at a high pulse frequency that makes the muscles work very rapidly, but not efficiently. This rapid work cycle depletes blood sugar by converting it to lactic acid all in just seconds. The resulting energy loss makes it difficult to move and function. At the same time, the tiny neurological impulses that travel throughout the body to direct muscle movement are interrupted. This causes disorientation and loss of balance and leaves the attacker in a passive and confused condition for several minutes. Still, there is no significant effect on the heart or other vital organs.

As a general rule, a one-half second contact can repel and startle the attacker, producing some pain and muscle contraction. One to two seconds can cause muscle spasms and a dazed mental state. Over three seconds can cause loss of balance and muscle control, mental confusion and disorientation. You have to realize that 3 seconds is quite a long time when in a physical struggle. Every person is different and will react differently to the effects of a stun gun. What may put one person down in 3 seconds could take 5 seconds on another person.

The electrical shock that emits from the unit will not pass from the person being stunned to the person doing the stunning. The effect is localized only in the affected area and does not pass through the body. Even if you or the attacker is wet or standing in water, you will not get shocked. Stun Guns are non-lethal self-defense products.

So there we have it. A stun gun is easy to use. They are relatively inexpensive and they could save your life. Stun Guns come in various sizes and voltages.

How a Stun Gun Can Help You

Richard Armen asked:

Self defense products like stun guns are becoming increasingly popular as more and more people realize that they must be prepared to defend themselves against violent situations like muggings, rape, or burglaries. Before purchasing any self defense device, make sure it is legal to carry in your area. Before purchasing a stun gun, also be sure that you know what exactly it is and how to use it. After all, it does no good to purchase a self defense device if you would be too afraid to use it when the time comes.

Stun guns are handheld, battery operated devices, usually with a 9 volt battery. They are shaped roughly like a cell phone or flashlight. When pressed against your attacker’s skin, it sends a jolt of electricity through them, disabling them immediately but without long-lasting effects. In just a few seconds, your attacker will lose his balance and fall to the ground, where he will be unable to move his muscles for five to ten minutes, plenty of time for you to escape the situation. Though they seem like they would be lethal due to their voltage, sometimes up to 2.5 million volts, the amperage is low, so they do not cause permanent damage.

They are very effective, as long as they are used correctly. Luckily, it is pretty easy to use a stun gun. There are two prongs at the end of the device. By pressing the two prongs against your attacker and pressing the button on the other end, the electrical current will pass through the prongs and into your attacker’s body.

The electrical current will pass through clothing, so you need not worry about directly contacting the skin. Still, there are some parts of the body that are better to contact than others, if you want maximum effectiveness. Aim for the rib cage, upper hips, and shoulders. In fact, anywhere on the torso should fully disable your attacker. If you contact only an arm or leg, there is a possibility that the electric charge will only disable that limb, rather than the attacker’s full body.

Try to keep the prongs against the attacker for 4-5 seconds. This can feel like forever when you’re being attacked, but it’s your best chance to be sure your attacker goes down and stays down. The higher the voltage, the less time required. High voltage stun guns may only require 2-3 seconds, to fully disable the target. Don’t worry about the assailant touching you while the stun gun is applied; the electric current will not pass to you. Once the stun gun is no longer pressed against the attacker, stop pressing the button. Using your stun gun in the air for long periods of time may damage it.

Even without actually using the stun gun against your attacker, it may be effective at stopping the attack. Hold it up and once activated, the crackling noise and blue sparks may be enough to keep the attacker at bay. However, be prepared for the attacker to come at you despite this display; remember that they may be armed, and they are looking for a fight.

Tested! Stun Guns! What Are Stun Guns And How Do They Work?

July 31st, 2009 admin No comments
Stun Guns are easy to use, non-lethal, defensive devices with interesting technology. A stun gun is a hand-held, battery-powered device designed to deliver an electric shock to an assailant. The electrical current is the same sort of current used to run your car or any battery operated apparatus.

Stun Guns are not guns in the traditional sense, because they do not shoot anything or anybody. Their technology allows them to be a potent and portable choice of self defense weapon.

A Stun Gun has two prongs at the end of the device. Touching an assailant with the prongs and pulling the trigger will create an electrical current to go from the prongs through the garments of the attacker into his body.

The pulsed current causes muscles to work super fast, quickly depleting them of needed blood sugars. It also interrupts the microscopic neurological stimulus that controls muscle movement. The results are disorientation and loss of balance.

The complete process takes only a few seconds. It can immobilize a person for up to 30 minutes. A Stun Gun will cause your assailant to lock up and collapse.

The results of being zapped with a Stun Gun are comparable to running a 25-mile marathon; the attacker just does not have any energy left. It is for this reason that this device gives you plenty of time to get away.

Stun Guns are not hard to use. To use a Stun Gun you need simply to grab your assailant, shove the Stun Gun into his torso and shoot. This will only take a second or so, depending on the sum of voltage in your Stun Gun.

Even though the voltage can be as high as 625,000 or more, the amperage is low, so it will not cause any permanent injury to the person who receives the shock. There is no proof that the electrical charge of the Stun Gun has adverse psychological or neurological effects. The effect on the heart or other major organ is very insignificant.

Most models include a safety switch to prevent accidental activation. The unit cannot produce a shock unless the safety switch is activated AND the On/Off switch is turned ON.

Stun Guns will not permanently injure or kill anyone because of the voltage. The technology used makes Stun Guns, at close range, extremely effective self-protection devices.
