Beginner Tips For Using a Kubotan

March 7th, 2010 admin No comments

There are many different weapons that may be used for self-defense. However, in most cases, they tend to be bulky (canes, sais and katanas), risky to the user (pepper sprays) and even illegal in some areas (stun guns or tasers). A kubotan, on the other hand, is an incredibly useful self-defense weapon. It’s handy, easy to carry and, if you know how to wield it, very efficient. Here are tips on how to use a kubotan safely and effectively:

Know what it is.
A kubotan is also called a yawara or yawara-bo. It’s actually a short stick, made of a strong material such as wood, metal, PVC (a very sturdy plastic, same material used for pipes) or even bone.
At only 5.5 inches long, the kubotan can fit in the palm of the hand, slipped into a pocket, tucked inside a handbag or even used as a keychain. It may not seem like a lot but if you know how to use it, it can be so much more than a decorative stick. Therein lies its function – it will help protect you, prevent bodily harm on your person and stop your attacker if you know how to use it.

Grip it firmly.
A kubotan is designed to fit the hand, with an inch or an inch and a half of material protruding from both ends. The key is to be familiar with your grip – not too light that the kubotan would fly off your hand during an attack and not too tight that you’d hurt yourself. Grip it in the most comfortable way for you so you are more comfortable using it.

You could choose a kubotan with a flat end, a rounded one or a sharp one, depending on your needs.
Know where to hit.

The kubotan is designed to hit certain points of the body. These are the points that will hurt most, allowing you to stop your assailant. These are:

- the eyes and the area between the eyes
- nose
- throat and either side of the neck
- chest area, particularly the diaphragm, the upper area near the center of the ribcage
- underneath the armpit
- pectoral muscles
- lower back at the bladder
- groin

Types of thrusts
A thrust can be downward, upward or sideways. Just make sure that the tip of the kubotan makes the maximum impact. Learn to direct your strength from the arms to the hands so you could use the weapon more efficiently.

Practice.
Don’t wait until you’ll really need to use a kubotan to wield it. Practice for 30 minutes with it several times a week. This will help make you more confident in using it and build your strength. Try to focus on the main targets (use a dummy or a punching bag). The better you are at hitting your target, the more you can protect yourself.

Buy Lipstick Pepper Spray and Be Genuinely Dangerous!

March 2nd, 2010 admin No comments

It’s a late night and hunger strikes, you and a friend decide to head out and grab some quick food. It’s a school night and it has been raining all day the fog is finally beginning to take its heavy sheet of blindness off the roads. You contemplate going but, figure now is as good a time as any. As you drive down the streets the town seems to be completely dead, there is no one out and about.

You finally arrive and your friend heads in to get the food, you lay back and relax in the car. As your watching the fog gently lift up you sense a cool odd sensation, and awkward feeling begins to overtake your body.

Mysteriously you can sense someone’s presence, trying hard not to make a huge scene you slowly reach for your purse and grab your lipstick from the side pocket. Using your intuitive peripheral vision you see a man on your left through the back window. The night was oddly warm so, all the windows were left down and your nerves begin to get the best of you.

Trying your best to stay calm you feel him inching closer. Your body begins to shiver and your muscles feel tight. With your lipstick in hand you calmly reach out and look in the mirror as if to apply it, just then the man makes his move. You sharply turn and spray the pepper spray lipstick directly in his eyes.

As your assailant screams in pain you jump in the driver’s seat, grab your friend and safely make your get away. This is a picture of something that happens every single day; being armed with something to protect you is the smart thing to do.

Pepper spray disguised as lipstick is an ingenious design that is least expected as pepper spray. You can easily catch your attacker off guard and keep it hidden at all times, no one will suspect a painful spray to emerge from a lipstick case. Whether your attacker is near you or coming towards you the pepper spray can come in handy, it can spray up to six feet away.

This is a great product for women; it looks genuine and is genuinely dangerous. The lipstick pepper spray comes in five great colors including: black, pink, blue, red and silver. They look so real no one will think you are caring a safety device right in your purse. Women should never feel out of control or in danger, with one of these by your side you will never have these feelings again.

Arming Teachers and Bank Tellers

February 13th, 2010 admin No comments

Every time there is a school shooting, we hear about arming the teachers with guns. With all the bank robberies that go on, we have never heard about arming the bank tellers with guns. The American people are saying that bank tellers are not important enough to be secured. Shortly after the shooting at Columbine the idea of arming teachers with guns came about full force. Teachers and other school administrators are there to teach our children.

A total of 6,985 bank robberies occurred last year alone. We may hear of 4 school shootings a year. Bank tellers deal with the public everyday. They may face an attempted bank robber that maybe highly intoxicated, on drugs, or just completely desperate. None of these situations make things safe for a bank teller in their job. The teller has no security between the assailant and themselves, except for the counter. The counter would be easy for anyone to jump over.

Bank tellers are extremely vulnerable to threats and bank robberies. Bank tellers do not get advanced notice that the bank is going to get robbed until it actually happens. With school shootings, another student knew about the plan before it happened and that person never told the proper authorities. Probably because the kids thought that no one would believe them. For example a boy calls 911 to get help for his mom. His first call was taken as a prank.

The boy called back four hours later and the dispatcher still thought it was a prank. When the police finally arrived at the boy’s house, his mother was dead. We can not take what our children say lightly. Maybe that student that knew about the shooting plan and did tell the proper authorities. That student was either brushed off by the proper authorities or the authorities did not believe that student. With no action being taken, it is no surprise that american’s are immune to the violence that goes on in the schools.

Teachers deal with our children 90% of the time. Most teachers see parents of their students a couple times a week to a couple times a year depending on the grade. There are very few instances of an adult walking into the school with the intent to go on a shooting massacre. The schools should have surveillance cameras to monitor locations in the school. The schools should set standards by installing metal detectors at every entrance/exit including emergency exits and security guards at every entrance.

These entrances should have surveillance camera systems all activities. The schools have other options of preventing school shootings. Arming the teachers with guns should never be an option. There are a lot of teachers that are female and can be easily over powered by a student. The assailants that are involved in the school shooting are students. There are many teachers that are not stable. There are teachers who are heavy drinkers, drug abusers, and who perform in child abuse acts.

Other options that are available to both bank tellers and teacher are arming with pepper spray and taser stun guns. Making one entrance and exit accessible to the public with metal detectors and security guards. Better surveillance systems with someone to monitor activity at all given times and adding more security guards. Arming bank tellers is highly more important as arming teachers. Bank tellers should have to go through extensive training to be able to arm themselves with guns and will required continual training throughout their careers.

There should be pay raise for the tellers that complete and passes all the training that would go along with arming themselves. You never hear of a bank teller being suspended for child abuse, drugs or drinking. They deal with thousands of dollars a day. Being in a bank robbery is a very scary thing. Bank teller stays calm during the robbery and need to be praised for that. They go to work everyday never knowing if their bank will be robbed today.

February 6th, 2010 admin No comments

I don’t know about where you live but in my hometown of Colorado Springs there has been an increase of 50% year over year in the incidence of robberies in January. Home invasions are up to. Unfortunately the economy has something to do with it. There is another cause to my way of thinking.

It has to do with ruthless gangs and related drug activity. With police forces in Colorado Springs cutting back because of budget problems gangs are flexing their muscles and are becoming more active. The same is true all across the country.

More than ever before citizens are liable for their own personal safety, personal security and personal protection. The police have never been able to do it and now more than ever it is your job to fend for yourself at home, on the road, or just in your neighborhood. What You Need to Know About Tasers

January 19th, 2010 admin No comments

Introduction

Tasers are in the news now more than ever. More police are using the device as a non-lethal aid to control rowdy out-of-control suspects. Consumers are also buying Taser as a non-lethal self defense weapon. Some media incorrectly use “Taser” and “stun gun” interchangeably. A Taser is a type of stun gun with shooting tethered electrodes that attach onto the assailant. A stun gun contains two attached electrodes that require clothing or skin contact and is NOT a Taser.

Although a prototype electrical device similar to the Taser was invented in 1969, it wasn’t until the 1990s that the company Air Taser was born. Early customers were citizens concerned about personal safety. When Taser changed its name in 1998 to Taser International they began to market their devices to law enforcement. The timing was right. Law enforcement had been seeking an effective alternative to lethal force.

How They Work

The Taser (or Air Taser) is a specialized stun gun. Once the gun is fired, compressed nitrogen sends out two darts each attached to 15 feet of fine wire. These probes attach to the subject’s clothing. 50,000 volts travel down the wires. The subject goes down in pain. Because the amperage is low, no permanent damage is done and the effects are temporary. A threatening or out-of-control individual is subdued without lethal force. Taser International claims near 100% effectiveness.

Tasers, like all stun guns, use a high voltage, low amperage electrical signal that when administered causes the complete loss of neuro-muscular control. Taser’s EMD (Electro Muscular Disruption) weapons use a more powerful 18 to 26 watt electrical signal to completely override the central nervous system and directly control the skeletal muscles.

The Taser uses a timing mechanism to deliver the jolt. The Air Taser releases an electric current in a pre-set time sequence (an initial seven seconds followed by several 1.8 second breaks for a total time of about 30 seconds in each cycle). This cycle ensures that the nervous system of the target does not recover instantly to allow him to remove the probes.

Effects

This EMD effect causes an uncontrollable contraction of the muscle tissue, allowing the gun to physically debilitate a target regardless of pain tolerance or mental focus. Rather than simply interfering with communication between the brain and muscles, the Advanced Taser EMD systems directly tell the muscles what to do: contract until the target is in a docile position on the ground.

A person hit with an Advanced Taser will feel dazed for several minutes. The pulsating electrical output causes involuntary muscle contractions and a resulting sense of vertigo. It can momentarily stun or render an attacker unconscious. Yet, the Taser’s low electrical amperage and short duration of pulsating current ensures a non-lethal charge. Moreover, it does not cause permanent damage or long-term aftereffects to muscles, nerves or other body functions. A January 1987 Annals of Emergency Medicine study reported TASER technology leaves no long term injuries compared with 50% long term injuries for gun shot injuries.

Are Tasers Safe?

There is a plethora of information concerning Taser safety both scientific and anecdotal. In summary, most studies conclude that the Taser’s effects are temporary with no ill after effects. Deaths have occurred after the administration of the Taser. Independent reviews showed most fatalities were due to pre-existing conditions, drugs or in some case, over-administration.

Police are generally enthusiastic about the results of Taser. Florida Orange County Sheriffs Department reported a 80% reduction of injuries to sheriffs in 2002, the first year of Taser use. The Phoenix police department reported a 67% reduction in suspect injuries in 2004 and attributed the results to Taser use. In South Bend Indiana, officer injuries were down by 67% in the last half of 2003 compared to no Taser use in the first half.

Conclusion

It’s a fact–Tasers work, clear and simple. They are nearly 100% effective in the field. The Air Taser is non-destructive to nerves, muscles and other body elements. Unlike regular stun guns that require actual contact with an assailant, Tasers can be fired up to 15 feet away. As with all self-defense products, the user must exercise sound judgment in their use and application. The latest model C2 Taser brings the price down to the consumer level. It comes in four fashion colors and is lightweight and easy to handle.

Flashlight Stun Guns

January 12th, 2010 admin No comments

In modern times, you can never be too careful when planning for your own safety. The unfortunate reality is that you could be attacked at any time, anywhere. You must be prepared for this possibility by carrying a self defense device that enables you to fight back against any would-be attacker to escape unharmed. One of the newest ways to protect yourself is with a flashlight stun gun.

This handy device combines the stopping power of a stun gun with a powerful LED light. The light feature enables you to see anything around you. Not only can you use it like a flashlight, but it is also designed to be shined directly into your attacker’s eyes. The LED light is so bright that it will have a temporarily blinding and disorienting effect.

The strong flashlight beam can be particularly helpful both for lighting your way and for alerting others to your presence. Do you hear strange noises from the bushes along the sidewalk? Aim your flashlight at them to find out what’s going on. If it turns out that a threat is hiding there, you can use the stun gun to protect yourself. The flashlight aspect can help you identify your assailant; having a flashlight turned on them will make many potential attackers turn and run for fear of being spotted or identified. Most stun device flashlights also have a built-in high decibel audible alarm to draw even more attention to your predicament. With 80,000 to 200,000 volts, an LED light, and a 130db alarm, your stun gun flashlight can help you stop any potential attacker.

Stun guns are frequently used by law enforcement, security officials, and private citizens. These very effective devices are easy to use, even with no training. The stun gun uses electricity to disable the assailant. Just turn the device on, sending a visible and audible crackle of electricity across the two prongs. Then, place these prongs against your attacker’s skin to send this electricity through him, completing the circuit. Your attacker will lose the ability to control his muscles, falling to the ground. For up to half an hour, your attacker will be literally unable to move a muscle or fight you. While this device immobilizes attackers for minutes, giving you plenty of time to escape, it is not lethal and should not cause any long-lasting effects. Stun guns are considered one of the best non-lethal self defense products available today, and have proven their effectiveness again and again.

Stun gun flashlights are a particularly good choice for those who spend time in the dark alone, such as those who walk home at night. Keep one in the car for nighttime emergencies; many criminals prey on those who are having car troubles, especially late at night. Anywhere you would keep a flashlight or a self defense product, keep a stun gun flashlight. This unique product combines an LED flashlight with a powerful stun gun for the best of both worlds without having to carry two separate devices.

Do Stun Guns Really Work?

December 15th, 2009 admin No comments
Keith Burke asked:

Stun guns are normally an electroshock weapon which are able to temporarily disable a would be assailant or attacker using electric shock. There are some stun guns which when used the user will need to be close to their attacker in order for them to be effective and there are others which can be used from a distance. However, when ever using a stun gun a person will need to make sure that it makes contact with the other person’s body.

During the last few years stun guns have become one of the most popular types of self defense weapons that are available for use by the public and which are non lethal to some people. Unfortunately there have been cases where people have died after being shocked with a stun gun but in most cases this is due to the person having some underlying health problem.

Stun guns use a high voltage electric shock in order to stop any attack and just by touching someone with the prongs on it will quickly immobilize them. Yet as they only use a very low amperage in most cases they cause no serious or permanent injury to the person who has been immobilized with one. Generally someone who has been touched with a stun gun when it has been activated will be immobilized for several minutes and are considered to be a reasonable force that a person can use in order to prevent an attack from happening.

When looking to purchase a stun gun you will find that there are many different sizes of stun guns as well as many different voltages that you can choose from. But generally the higher the voltage on it the quicker the full effect of the device will be felt by the would be assailant. Although lower voltage models are just as effective as the higher voltage ones they just take a few seconds longer for them to provide the full effect on the would be assailant. So if you are looking for something that really is effective and will work quickly for you then look at purchasing one which has a higher voltage to it.

Certainly most stun guns will only deliver between 1 and 2 milliamps of power when activated, whereas 1 amp of power would actually kill someone. So as you can see that these use an amperage which is well below that which could do any lasting damage to a person. However, there are plenty of others on the market which provide between 3 and 4 milliamps of power which makes them much more effective.

Finally the best thing with regard to stun guns is their life span. They could be used as many times as they are needed before either the battery needs replacing or recharging.

Taser vs Stun Gun

December 7th, 2009 admin No comments
Thomas Paterson asked:

First developed in the late 1960s, TASER technology was developed by a research scientist at NASA. His goal was to provide non-lethal protection options. Taser International was born when the inventor and the Smith brothers, Rick and Tom, joined forces. The catalyst for the Smiths was the shooting death of two high school friends who were felled by someone carrying a licensed firearm.

First, let’s look at TASERs. They provide long-distance protection. Using a replaceable TASER cartridge which holds a compressed type of inert gas (nitrogen), a TASER fires a pair of barbed projectiles toward the attacker. The projectiles are attached to highly conductive, insulated wires coming from the hand-held device. The wires conduct a 50,000 volt shock to the attacker at a distance up to 15 feet (4.5 meters). The newer models are capable of delivering stopping power not only through thick clothing (up to a cumulative total of two inches) but even through Level III body armor, like a bullet-proof vest.

Second, take a look at stun guns. These non-lethal weapons do not fire any sort of projectile. While they come in an amazing variety of shapes and sizes (like cell phones, flashlights, etc.), the one thing they have in common is that the stun gun must come in contact with the assailant. This means the “bad buy” will have to be a lot closer than if you were firing a TASER. Nevertheless, they pack a hefty charge and are capable of reducing a big, hulking attacker to being unable to stand or direct his muscles. The jolt of a 50,000 volt surge through his body interrupts the attacker’s ability to make any deliberate moves. The result: you have time to 1) escape and/or 2) call for reinforcements before the bad guy recovers.

Now for the best of both worlds: Taser International has invented a product that combines the advantage of keeping potential attackers at a distance and provides close quarters defense. The TASER C2, as in regular TASERs, fires its darts up to 15 feet, providing anyone with the ability to protect oneself and family members from danger.

Also, the TASER C2 also has the ability to function as a stun gun. Even after the projectiles have been fired, the TASER C2 can be used at close quarters. It can also deliver a debilitating jolt without having the projectile cartridge installed. The backup capability seriously elevates the usefulness and diversity of the device. That means that with a single weapon, you have the advantage of both a direct contact stun gun and a distance conscious TASER.

The advantage of these take down power options provides the brief amount of time needed to defuse or escape a dangerous situation. In addition, the TASER C2 comes in a variety of colors, is ergonomically designed, and packs a Lithium Power Magazine good for at least 50 applications. All told, the TASER C2 provides a whole lot of bang for the buck.

Stop Crime Against Senior Citizens: Should Grandma Get a Taser

August 27th, 2009 admin No comments
Though crime against senior citizens has decreased according to the Department of Justice, it still exists. Most crimes against senior citizens involve theft. Such as purse snatching or home burglary. The truth of the matter is senior citizens are easy targets. They are usually unable to defend themselves, react slower, unable to identify assailants due to poor vision, and may be confined to a wheelchair, this is sad and very unfortunate; nevertheless, very true.

Self defense classes are not very practical for senior citizens due to health concerns and the lack of physical strength to defend themselves; however, there are numerous lethal and non-lethal weapons available to senior citizens for the use of self defense. For example: taser guns.

Self defense instructors and law official alike agree that the Taser C2 model stun gun is a highly effective instrument for self defense. The Taser C2 is a non-lethal type of device that will not leave any permanent damage.

The Taser C2 is small, light weight and easy to carry. Yet, this does not affect its performance; which allows senior citizens the ability to carry the weapon without any restraints or inconvenience. This weapon works by the shooting of two probes at its target. The darts are connected to the unit by wires which can reach up to 15 feet. This allows the victim to defend themselves and taser their assailant from a distance; avoiding contact and immediate risk of harm.

The darts deliver an electric shock that interferes with the body’s nervous system, incapicitating the attacker and preventing their ability to move or further attack. Neither the person’s size nor their level of intoxification matters. The Taser C2 works by creating a physical reaction and not by pain compliance. The person being tasered cannot move their muscles.

So what if the darts miss the attacker? Though the Taser C2 has a built in laser to aid in successfully hitting your target, in case you miss, the Taser C2 also can be used as a stun gun for direct contact. With the Taser C2 it is hard to go wrong.

Tasers and stun guns are legal to carry in most all United States and do not require a license or permit to own or carry.

Though most senior citizens never imagine being the victim of a crime, they are particularly vulnerable. It is best to be prepared than not and the Taser C2 is an effective non-lethal means of self defense that is easy to use and convenient to carry.

How to Use a Stun Alarm Flashlight

August 18th, 2009 admin No comments
Phil Washington asked:

Another powerful self-defense device you might want to consider is the stun alarm flashlight.  It’s a multi-purpose gadget that is functional and portable.  Should this be your gadget of choice?  Here is a look at its features and functions:

What is a stun alarm flashlight?

A stun alarm flashlight is a stun baton that also works as an alarm and a flashlight.  It’s a three-in-one device that covers many of the features that people long for in their self-defense gadgets.  As a stun gun or baton, it delivers a bolt of battery-powered electricity upon direct contact with an attacker, causing extreme discomfort and physical weakness.  Its stopping power is immediate, so you can react immediately by running away, disarming your assailant or calling for help.

It’s also equipped with an alarm – an effective means to deter an attack, call attention or help.  And lastly, it is also a working flashlight – a necessity in case of power outages or if you find yourself in locations where light is unavailable.

Because of its length, it’s also advantageous for when you need to keep some distance away from your attacker.

Advantages

The stun alarm flashlight is actually easy to carry and conceal.  It’s easy to pack inside a medium-sized bag or backpack and can be carried around casually as a flashlight.  Joggers, hikers, people who work late night shifts, those who live alone and people who travel frequently on their own will find this gadget very convenient.  It also fits easily inside the glove compartment, so it’s always within reach.

The stun alarm flashlight is also a very powerful device.  The smallest is capable of producing 300,000 volts of electricity, enough to stop a grown man in his tracks.  Longer units have a higher kilovolt capacity.

Some words of reminder

The stun alarm flashlight is essentially a stun gun with modified features.  It does not function in the same way as the Taser™.  As such, it should be used directly on the target and the correct end of the flashlight should come in direct contact before it can actually work.

Safety reminders

While the stun alarm flashlight is not considered a lethal weapon, it still functions as a weapon.  Be aware of how you use it and to whom.  Small children and animals, for example, may not be able to withstand the shock if the flashlight is accidentally used against them.

The stun alarm flashlight is also not a toy, so avoid giving access to young children or teens who might use them with their playmates and friends.
