What is the SWAT-C8 PAVA Launcher?

February 10th, 2010 admin No comments

According to the FBI, over 875,000 people are assaulted every year. While there are many non-lethal self defense products on the market today, they are limited to a 5-15 foot distance and crazed or multiple attackers sometimes render them ineffective. A new non-lethal product called the SWAT-C8 PAVA Launcher combines the rapid fire and distance advantages of a semi-automatic hand gun, with four times the heat of pepper sprays, into a self defense product that will stop anyone, yet won’t kill them.

The SWAT-C8 PAVA Launcher is the next generation, non-lethal self defense product that looks like a hand gun, yet it launches eight synthetic PAVA pepper powder projectiles at a rapid rate. We know of no other non-lethal product on the market today that packs that much punch, and can be used at such distances, without killing someone.

The C8 launcher is shaped like a large, semi-automatic pistol; however, instead of using lethal bullets, it uses a tiny CO2 cartridge to launch a synthetic PAVA pepper powder projectile that bursts on contact with an attacker. It has a removable magazine that holds eight, .68 caliber PAVA projectiles. The C8 shoots the projectiles at 400 feet per second, and is accurate up to 75 feet.

This is a major breakthrough in self defense products, because all your other choices have a much shorter effective range:

Stun Guns: 2-3 feet

Pepper Sprays: 7-15 feet

Taser: 12-15 feet

The C8 stops attackers in multiple ways; first, when you pull the trigger, a loud bang will sound as the C02 is released and the projectile is launched, confusing the attacker.

Second, the projectiles hit the attacker at 400 feet per second, and it will hit them like a regular paint ball, which will leave a welt. The third way to stop them is when the projectile bursts, and the powerful PAVA powder floats in front of their face.

Immediately, it will irritate their nose and mouth, slam their eyes shut, and their skin will burn. The punks breathing and seeing will be very difficult for the next 10-20 minutes, and the powder even sticks to their skin. One round should neutralize most threats. If not, pop off a few more rounds at the attacker.

The projectiles are made from a pepper derivative that is four times as hot as pepper sprays. The ingredients in hot peppers that are responsible for the heat are called capsaicinoids. Capsaicinoids are a family of chemicals, and they come with various heat qualities. PAVA (Capsaicin II) is the hottest of the capsaicin family. The projectiles contain a pharmaceutical grade PAVA as their main ingredient. This insures a very consistent and hot irritant which delivers extreme stopping power.

If you are confronted by multiple attackers, you can quickly squeeze off eight rounds semi-automatically, then, you can quickly change magazines and fire off another eight rounds. Firing them into the ground in front of the attacker is just as effective, as the PAVA will release in front of them, stopping them from advancing.

This is a major advantage over other the other self defense products we spoke of earlier. Pepper sprays only have 7-15 squirts before you run out, depending on the sizes. If you miss, or they are high on drugs, or there are multiple attackers, you won’t get them all.

Stun guns only work when the person is right next to you; you have to touch them on the torso with the stun gun for it to work. If you dry fire it in the air, the spark might scare a human and defiantly an animal from a distance, then again it might not. You run the risk of the attacker overtaking you and taking the stun gun away.

With the Taser, you only get one shot to hit the attacker with the 2 projectiles. If one or both miss, it won’t work, though you can add a speed loader to have one extra cartridge, so the max shots would be two, unless you kept a couple cartridges in a holster.

Practice rounds can be purchased for training that have an inert powder that will not hurt you. You can practice with these to get proficient, then use the PAVA rounds to protect yourself. In quantity, the practice rounds can be obtained for as little as 3.5 cents per projectile,

Is the SWAT-C8 legal? Yes, though in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts, Live Rounds and Launchers must be purchased through an authorized dealer. The rest of the states allow the launchers, though the Live Rounds are prohibited in California, Delaware, Minnesota, Washington DC, and Wisconsin. They are also legal in Mexico, South Africa, and South America.

Keeping Self Defense Simple

February 4th, 2010 admin No comments

With all the different styles of martial arts, self defense seminars, pepper sprays, stun guns, etc… The idea of practical self defense becomes a bit overwhelming. Don’t dare ask what the best method is, what the best martial art style is, or which products are best, and expect a straightforward response. This topic always sparks a debate among “experts”.

My best advice is to keep it simple. I will refrain from the more traditional “keep it simple stupid”, as it’s not polite to call anyone stupid, especially when it’s untrue. After all, you are reading this and taking steps to ensure your personal safety and security… so that makes you a smarty-pants in my book!

Seriously though, I recommend having your bases covered, with simple strategies that don’t require much movement and thought.

For physical self defense techniques, attend several seminars by different instructors. You will get many different viewpoints, and many that are contradictory, but you will see the commonalities in all, and those will be what you want to stick with.

As far as self defense weapons go, get something that is easy for you to use and is proven effective. The more complex it is to use, the harder it will be to use in a real situation. In my opinion, having a self defense kit is the best idea. These typically come with a pepper spray, stun gun, and personal alarm. Depending on how you dress and where you’re going, you’ll have the right tool to carry. Please train yourself how to use it though, I can’t stress that enough.

Finally, make sure you have the mindset to protect yourself. I was at the store this weekend, and noticed a couple of guys kept walking past this attractive woman who was talking on her cellphone and oblivious to the situation. She had no idea she was being stalked. Granted, the store has security cameras, but what about the parking lot… they could have walked out, got in their car, and followed her. Please, stay aware.

Just keep in mind, that the simplest ideas can be the most effective. So keep it simple!

What Are The Different Types Of Non-Lethal, Self-Defense Products

February 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

Lets begin with the purpose of carrying a self-defense product. Statistics reveal that property crimes have fallen while violent crimes continue to rise. Violent crimes include murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault. This is personal! It is most unfortunate that in this day and age we have to continually look over our shoulder. However, we do. The key to self-protection is Prevention. One way Prevention can be obtained is through the carry and use of a non-lethal self-defense product. By this, I mean carrying Mace, pepper spray, a personal alarm or a stun device, which can not only save your life but can play a huge role in the Prevention of a crime. Before the crime is committed… Prevent it! If an assailant sees that you carry some type of self-defense product, they might think twice before proceeding to commit the crime.

There are many types of self-defense products on the market today. There are a variety of pepper sprays that come in various strengths and sizes. There are also a good variety of personal alarms and stun devices, such as stun guns.

Mace and/or pepper spray comes in strengths from a 2% to 18% OC solution. OC is the main ingredient in defensive sprays. It is a derivative of the cayenne pepper, the hottest pepper in the world. However, the strength of the defensive spray does not necessarily mean that the higher percentage of OC in a spray…. the hotter. On the contrary, the OC percentage is a measurement relative to the other ingredients in the canister, such as tear gas or UV dye. The OC concentration does not measure the concentration of the other active ingredients in the spray. The effectiveness of a defensive spray is the quantity or concentration of Capsaicin. The higher the concentration of Capsaicin the hotter the OC spray. Defensive sprays also come in different sizes and types. The most popular type is the quick key release keychain pepper spray. One of the newest is the lipstick pepper spray. It looks like a lipstick container, however it is not. There are defensive sprays you can carry in your purse, on your keychain or on your belt. There are sprays with a leatherette holster, or sprays with a hard case or injection-molded holster. There is even a container that resembles a small baton. The sizes can be various as well. You can get ½ oz., 2 oz., 4 oz., and even larger canisters of spray (spray, foam, stream or gel). Check with your locality or jurisdiction for restrictions and legality of defensive sprays.

There are a variety of personal alarms as well. There is the Mace Brand Screecher Alarm, which is an aerosol alarm that emits an ear-piercing blast that is recognized as an emergency call for help and can be heard up to ½ mile away. The best deterrent is the combination of a 125db alarm and a flashing light, known as the Keychain Alarm. There is the 2N1 Alarm, which is a dual-purpose alarm that acts as a personal alarm and a burglar alarm. You’ve got the Personal Alarm With Flashlight that emits 130db of sound and the Electronic Pocket Whistle, which emits a loud 120db whistle.

Stunning devices are also very popular. However, some states have restrictions regarding the possession and/or purchase of these products. Before purchasing a stun gun you need to check with your locality or jurisdiction to see what or if any restrictions apply. Stunning devices can mean stun guns or tasers. Stun guns come in a variety of sizes and voltages. They come as small as the palm of your hand or as large as 8.75 inches tall. Voltages range from 100,000 volts to 1,000,000 volts. Almost all stun guns have safety switches and wrist straps. Tasers are a little more difficult to explain as far as the operation and legality of the unit. Most tasers have restrictions similar to stun guns. That is because it is considered a stunning device just like a stun gun. Again, check your locality for restrictions and legality.

There you have it. Now what type of pepper spray, personal alarm or stun gun would you choose? It can be difficult with all of the different types, strengths, sizes, sounds and voltages. Choose the self-defense product you think you will be most comfortable using, carrying and/or wearing. Again, do not forget to check with your locality or jurisdiction regarding the restriction and/or legality of defensive sprays and stunning devices.

Self Defense Products For Assaults on Women

February 1st, 2010 admin No comments

Why is so much attention paid to women when it comes to assaults? Why is it do you suppose that so many self defense product manufacturers like Taser, Stun Master, Mace and others develop and design products specifically for women? Could it be because women are targets of violent assaults by a nine to one margin? Maybe.

Think about all the women you know in your life and think about those stats. About right? Scary isn’t it. With so many women at risk at some point in their life it is a question of when not if. I know from personal experience in my life that stat is just about right.

Everyone should know that self defense products offer a non lethal alternative for self defense and as such are meant to allow you time to get away and seek help nothing more.

Here are some of the best products for self defense against assaults on women.

1. Stun guns, as an example, will temporarily disable an attacker by overloading the muscles depleting them of blood sugar making the assailant powerless to do anything. The stun gun needs to be applied to the assailant. No long term damage is done. He will be out of commission for 3-10 minutes losing his balance unable to hurt you. For gosh sake don’t stand around, get out of there.

2. Pepper Sprays on the other hand shoot out streams of OC spray up to 18 feet. That spray will cause the eyes to close by swelling eye veins, mucous membranes will swell, breathing becomes difficult and inflicts great pain for up to 45 minutes.

3. Tasers use EMD ( electro muscular disruption) technology to incapacitate an attacker-nearly 100% worth. They have been tested to have more stopping power than a 9 mm hand gun. They shoot out two electrified darts up to 15 feet. Tasers are used by over 11,000 police agencies in the U.S. and at least 7 foreign countries.

4. Personal Alarms are really nothing more than very loud noise makers. They can be heard up to one quarter of a mile away and are very effective.

Self Defense Weapons – How They Protect You

January 18th, 2010 admin No comments

Self defense weapons are a group of non lethal tools or products that when used allow a victim time to escape or get help in the face of imminent danger. Generally speaking, self defense weapons or items can be anything that falls into that category.

A lot of people have a difficult time reconciling lethal force for snatching a purse

Stun guns, tasers, pepper sprays and personal alarms are the most common. Unfortunately they are not widely available except on the internet.

Self defense weapons’ evolution into the mainstream of society starts with the military and police agencies that have been using these products for over 40 years. These are the true professionals who know what they are doing. They wouldn’t use something that didn’t work.

It is just within the last 15-20 years that have they evolved into civilian use and become commonly accepted.

PERSONAL ALARMS–are small devices that are great for all ages from 4-85. They are dirt cheap and very easy to use. Generally they are noise makers. The bad guys in an assault don’t like any attention that noise attracts. That is why they are so effective.

PEPPER SPRAYS–are less expensive than stun guns but require refills or replacement. They are easy to use easy to carry and conceal-many are disguised. They can be thrown off target by an 8-10 MPH wind. They have ranges from 5-18 feet. Pepper sprays are 75% effective. They are less effective on someone who is on drugs or drunk

STUN GUNS –are about 85% effective and are more expensive than pepper sprays. They can be as small as a pack of cigarettes or as large as a 20″ stun baton. They must be applied to the target for 3-5 seconds for maximum effectiveness.

TASERS–are the top of the self defense weapon food chain.

They are the most expensive but have more stopping power-nearly 100 %- than a 9 mm hand gun yet have no lasting damage. They are effective up to 15 feet away.

Stun guns, tasers and pepper sprays are not legal in some states. Check with your local police department first before you get one.

Where to Buy Stun Guns

Jack Krohn asked:

Self Defense products like stun guns, pepper sprays, tasers, personal alarms, etc. have become more popular in the last several years for a few different reasons. They have definitely found a place in our busy lives. One of the reasons they have become so mainstream is the increase in crime. Don’t look now but crime isn’t going away any time soon.

The second reason is the simple fact that police cannot be everywhere. Police do a great job but they can’t protect everyone 24/7. Individuals have to be more responsible for their own self defense and folks are starting to realize this.

The third reason self defense products are more popular than ever is simple fact that self defense products have become more well known and more publicized thanks to the mainstream media The ‘don’t taze me bro’ video heightened awareness of tasers for example and got the whole country talking about tasers.

And lastly self defense products, by word of mouth, have got a great level of respectability because they work and have saved countless lives. That may be the biggest reason they have zoomed in popularity. But where do you find them?

I live in a city of 650,000-Colorado Springs. They have two shops that sell some products but nowhere near the selection available on my website. Their prices are higher too. There is nowhere in Colorado that I am aware of that has anything close to the selection of self defense products that I have on my website.

So the short answer is the internet offers the best selection of self defense products at the most competitive prices. Usually shipping is free or low cost. Most self defense product internet purveyors offer free tips on home security and self defense too-an added bonus.

When it comes time for you to get a stun gun or any self defense product let your mouse do the walking. Get on the internet today because that time is now.

“WHEN YOU CARE ENOUGH TO STUN THE VERY WORST”

Self Defense – Pepper Spray or Stun Gun – a Comparison

December 5th, 2009 admin No comments
Jack Krohn asked:

To be or not to be?

In New Mexico, the question is red or green? (referring to the chile)

In Chicago it’s the Cubs or White Sox?

Okay so maybe it doesn’t rank up there with those lofty questions, but people ask me all the time which is better a stun gun or pepper spray. Here is a comparison of stun guns and pepper spray using criteria that most people would consider before making a purchase.

COST—Pepper Sprays are less expensive but require refills or replacement. Stun Guns need new batteries occasionally. Pepper Sprays can run from$12.95 – $29.95. Stun Guns from $22.00-$79.95.

EASE OF USE—Both are equally easy to use.

AIMING —Pepper Spray requires some skill and can be effected by wind and rain. With Stun Guns aim is not an issue.

CLOSENESS TO TARGET—Pepper Spray 6-18 feet; Stun Guns have to be right on the target.

LEGAL LIMITATIONS—Pepper Spray is legal in all states but some cities and states have restrictions. Stun Guns are illegal in some states. Check your local police or sheriff’s department for specifics.

LASTING DAMAGE—Neither Pepper Spray nor Stun Guns have lasting damage to the assailant.

SIZE—Lipstick size and larger for Pepper Spray. Stun Guns can be as small as a handheld blackberry and bigger. Both can be concealed in a purse.

STOPPING POWER—Pepper Spray if on target-excellent. Stun Gun-very good.

PERIOD OF IMMOBILIZATION—Pepper Spray will put someone out of action for 15-30 minutes. A Stun Gun will immobilize someone for 3-10 minutes. Both are long enough to get away and/or get help.

INTIMIDATION FACTOR—Pepper Spray will not likely intimidate anyone. However a fully charging Stun Master creates quite a sight and sound-enough to scare some assailants away.

DISGUISABILITY—Both Stun Guns and Pepper Sprays can be disguised as different objects easily.

On the face of it, trying to be objective, I would lean to the pepper spray all things being equal. The problem is all things are not equal. If the attacker is more than 6-10 feet away one or two things can go wrong that could cost you. And remember we are talking about the lives of you, your children, your spouse-you don’t want to leave this to chance.

If the wind is blowing at more than 10-15 miles per hour, which really isn’t much, it can cause the spray, mist or stream, to either go off target or worse blow back in your face. I am not sure which is worse. In any event it will not get you the desired result. You must have a hit right in the face preferably the eyes on the first or second shot. Can you hit that small a target from 10 feet away in the wind, in rain, under stress?

Practice might be one way to instill some confidence in your ability. Hook a string to a paper plate and hang it from a tree branch and fire away. This will instill some confidence in your ability to effectively use pepper spray.

There is so much at stake, potentially your life or those of your loved ones, why not have both? They are both very easy to carry and conceal. Both are effective. Start with the pepper spray and end with the stun gun.

If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The “other guy” is thinking the same thing and YOU are that “other guy”. There is a reason why they call it self defense. You have to protect yourself, your family, your home and business!!

Home Security And Self Defense – The Best Way To Protect Your Home And Family

September 2nd, 2009 admin No comments
The statistics are in and crime is on the rise-what a surprise!

Property crime occurs every 3 seconds, a home burglary every 15 seconds.

Now there is a new threat “Home Invasion”. “Home Invasion” is a term police use when a suspect enters a home with or without force and confronts the occupants to commit a robbery and or other crimes such as assault, rape, torture or even murder.

“Home Invasion” is particularly troubling because of the potential trauma it inflicts on the occupants, parents and especially small children and the potential threat of assault, rape, torture or even murder.

To me it seems like “home invasion” is much more intimidating than a regular burglary. It is one thing to have your home burglarized when you are not there. That is bad enough. But to have someone invade your home while you are there brandishing a knife or gun brings the violation up a notch to a whole new level.

It is my sincere hope that none of my readers/customers ever have to go thru the trauma of a home invasion or burglary.

Forewarned is forearmed or something like that. Take these steps to help prepare for what is almost inevitable.

1. MAKE YOUR HOME YOUR CASTLE Secure it the best you can. Do the obvious things doors, windows, etc. Eliminate hiding places. Install some door and window alarms. And while you’re at it check to see if the “Castle Doctrine” applies in your area.

2. “GET SMART and GET A PLAN” Home Invaders can be thwarted if you and your family have a plan and have practiced what to do in case of an intrusion. That plan must assuredly involve some non lethal self defense weapons such as stun guns, tasers, pepper sprays, stun batons, etc. located throughout the house.

3. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE Practice what to do in the event of an emergency and practice how to use your non lethal self defense weapons. Nothing beats having a split second response in an emergency.

4. HAVE A FAIL SAFE WAY TO GET 911 Land lines, cell phones, smoke signals-some way to get help that will work no matter what.

If you follow these tips not only will you be prepared but the worry factor will diminish.
