Keeping Self Defense Simple

February 4th, 2010 admin No comments

With all the different styles of martial arts, self defense seminars, pepper sprays, stun guns, etc… The idea of practical self defense becomes a bit overwhelming. Don’t dare ask what the best method is, what the best martial art style is, or which products are best, and expect a straightforward response. This topic always sparks a debate among “experts”.

My best advice is to keep it simple. I will refrain from the more traditional “keep it simple stupid”, as it’s not polite to call anyone stupid, especially when it’s untrue. After all, you are reading this and taking steps to ensure your personal safety and security… so that makes you a smarty-pants in my book!

Seriously though, I recommend having your bases covered, with simple strategies that don’t require much movement and thought.

For physical self defense techniques, attend several seminars by different instructors. You will get many different viewpoints, and many that are contradictory, but you will see the commonalities in all, and those will be what you want to stick with.

As far as self defense weapons go, get something that is easy for you to use and is proven effective. The more complex it is to use, the harder it will be to use in a real situation. In my opinion, having a self defense kit is the best idea. These typically come with a pepper spray, stun gun, and personal alarm. Depending on how you dress and where you’re going, you’ll have the right tool to carry. Please train yourself how to use it though, I can’t stress that enough.

Finally, make sure you have the mindset to protect yourself. I was at the store this weekend, and noticed a couple of guys kept walking past this attractive woman who was talking on her cellphone and oblivious to the situation. She had no idea she was being stalked. Granted, the store has security cameras, but what about the parking lot… they could have walked out, got in their car, and followed her. Please, stay aware.

Just keep in mind, that the simplest ideas can be the most effective. So keep it simple!

Self Defense Products As Part of Your Self Defense Strategy

February 4th, 2010 admin 1 comment

The right to defend oneself and ones’ property is a God given right and one of the most basic rights of a free society along with the right to bear arms. Men have always had to protect everything from his life to all his possessions.

Today we depend on laws, a civilized society and the police to help protect us. However police resources are spread thinner each day. Individuals must assume more responsibility for their own safety and security and that of their loved ones.

Where do non lethal self defense products fit into your self defense strategy?

Self defense products are an integral part of the strategy. Stun guns, pepper sprays, personal alarms, etc have their place for sure. You also need to know how to use them and practice using them so when the time comes you are ready and act reflexively.

Another key ingredient is learning some basic self defense techniques that can build your confidence. Self Defense DVD’s allow you to learn in the comfort of your own home at your own pace from world class instructors.

I have long been a proponent of teaching school age children basic self defense skills in school then repeated for several years

Once you have the basics get a friend and practice using your self defense training, practice using your pepper spray or stun gun. If and when the time comes to defend yourself you want your instincts to take over and react not stop and think about what to do.

If you take these steps you will take a giant leap in building your confidence in and your actual ability to defend your self and your family.

Use Self Defense Techniques With Caution

January 31st, 2010 admin No comments

The topic of self defense is being talked about a lot these days. And there is no doubt about the reason why this is happening. With increasing crime levels, people are becoming aware of the fact that if they are confronted with an attacker, they need to know what to do.

While self defense products like pepper sprays, stun guns and tasers are extremely easy to use and convenient, you cannot carry them with you all the time. For example, if you are wearing an elegant gown and going for a party, there is a small chance that you would like to carry a pepper spray with you. Though pepper sprays and stun guns also come in small packages and can be disguised as lipsticks or key chains, they may not be your first choice in such situations.

It is obviously advisable to arm yourself with other knowledge and skills so that you can use other self defense tactics if need be. Undergoing some kind of self defense training is especially important for those who may have jobs or professions that put them at a higher risk of attack. Security guards, waitresses and bartenders need to be more careful while they are at work and while getting off work too. With this knowledge in mind, there are various companies that have started marketing videos on self defense techniques. Some of these videos claim to tech martial arts and judo. On the other hand some of them claim to comprehensively train you in various self defense tactics that you can use when attacked.

Irrespective of how authentic these self defense videos may be, there is one thing that almost all fail to mention – the fact that active and concerted practice is required to master the art of self defense techniques. Learning self defense is not as easy as sitting on the couch and watching a self defense video once a day for five days at a stretch. For that matter, it is not even standing in front of the idiot box and practicing some moves once in a while. If you really want to learn how to defend yourself in the time of need, you need to see the video’s, and involve a friend and practice the moves regularly till you become confident and adept. You could use kickboxing equipment to practice too.

Do not make the mistake of thinking that the story ends there. There is another aspect of self defense that is not very well known. Irrespective of how many times you may have practices your moves and self defense tactics, you may react in a completely different manner when you are actually confronted by a real assailant, kidnapper or rapist. Many people who consider themselves otherwise prepared for an attack freeze at the sight of someone with a knife.

One is not suggesting that you throw yourself in front of real attack situation for practice. However, thinking about the situation actively can help you prepare for it mentally. Think of what you would do when something like this happens, the moves you would make and the manner in which you will go about using your strengths. Learn about the weak spots that you can hit upon so that you can emerge victorious with the least effort required.
Following the above mentioned recommendations in conjunction with the self defense training videos can definitely help you in protecting yourself better.

Self Defense Clique – Hot New Social Community

August 29th, 2009 admin No comments
Lake Park, FL May 11, 2009 – When was the last time you felt happy? Do you jump on the bandwagon of “negativity” or surround yourself with positive people? Even in a bad economy, there still remains hope at the end of the day where we can turn to those people who bring us joy in something we have a love for. A place where we can share our experiences, favorite movies, or just make new friends from all over the world. It will be a learning experience that is new, refreshing and will bring enjoyment with no cost but to bring human beings together as one talking about their favorite subjects…..themselves!

Just launched on April 22, 2009, a real “social community” was unveiled called the Self Defense Clique,. It will become the hottest gathering spot to meet new people that share a common bond,  Whether your interests lie in writing a blog or joining a group, post a poll or make a quiz up for fun….whatever the reason, pass on your wisdom to others so that you can feel good about yourself in a positive way rather than concentrating on the happenings of the world. Being part of a community or the sense of belonging to a social community is important, it opens our eyes to what can be rather than what is.

The Self Defense Clique community offers it’s members totally FREE membership. They have the opportunity to post a profile, find a group that is suited to their personality or speak out in the forums. One can learn different effective self defense techniques, training methods, and strategies from all styles, and use anything available to defend themselves against attacks. Unfortunately, we live in a world where everything we have or own can be taken from us in an instant and if you don’t believe that, just watch the news or CNN sometime. It’s time to wake up to the danger that is present all around us at any given moment in time.

In the inspirational words of the great Ralph Waldo Emerson he states that “Before we acquire great power we must acquire wisdom to use it well”.

Within this site you will also find instructional fighting dvds, wireless home alarms, voice changers, personal alarms, safety lights, diversion safes, air soft guns and even products like surveillance systems, hand held metal detectors, stun batons, electronic dog chasers, sling shots and more. We also carry non lethal self defense products like pepper spray, paintball guns, stun guns, child safety, tasers, mace and home protection. These products allow you to live your life while still protecting yourself and those you love.

You owe it to yourself to have the best self defense products available, more so since it’s so inexpensive.

The Social Community is a place where you can find new friends with common interests, start a gathering spot for others to meet and allow others to know of any special upcoming events with our calendar.  Online social networking is changing what we know about our friends and acquaintances and the emergence of a larger, more integrated, online social community is interesting to watch.

The Taser as a Tool for Self Defense

August 25th, 2009 admin No comments
Believe it or not, some people have resorted to tasers as a form of self defense. In some states they are considered illegal, however, tasers have definitely proven effective. If you are the target of an attack and own a taser, its a lot easier not to become a victim if you use it on your attacker. There’s nothing wrong about self defense. What do authorities expect you to do? If you have children with you or even if you are alone, that shouldn’t give someone the right to attack you without the response of you fighting back in self defense. While tasers aren’t legal in every state you can find out. And unfortunately, some people have grown so worried about being attacked, they obtain a taser and carry it anyway. Even if it is illegal in the state where they are living. Police officers are allowed to use them in threatening situations, so if you are the victim of a threatening or violent situation, do you not have the same right of self defense to use one?

If the primary objective is to use the taser for self defense then it is not abusive to sue? People only want to feel safe. And knowing self defense, and options for a way out if you are attacked is a natural emotion. People know that society does not expect the citizens to stand helpless without any defense. How traumatizing this can be.

If an attacker sees that you have a Taser, they are more than likely to not pursue you in a criminal situation. Naturally the easiest thing to do would just give up your purse or wallet, however what if that’s not what the attack was all about? Many attackers will think twice about attacking you if you have a taser and seem to know self defense. Literally. There are many ways to handle the taser. Some trainers have advocated the use of flipping the instrument to your other hand.

There are many ways of using the taser. If your attacker has you bent over, and the attacker is behind you, you can learn how to go between your legs through self defense techniques and movements and use the taser on the attacker that way. There are many variations that can be used with the taser. But the possibilities get very limited if you don’t know about self defense or how to even use a taser.

You also have to have the taser to learn how to actually use it the right way as well. However, tasers are usually any where from thirty to fifty dollars, and they run on nine volt batteries. Most tasers even have a safety feature on them. We recommend that you research the effectiveness of the taser.
