What Does Self Defense Mean to You?

March 8th, 2010 admin No comments

The term self defense has a million different implications for every person who hears it. Some people simply think of a weapon while others believe it involves years of training and preparation just to ensure personal safety. Many consumers also believe this term is synonymous with bringing actual firearms and ammunition into the household.

Personal defense has a significant interest in todays world. It does not seem to matter where you live in the world, there is crime occurring. The best protective measures are preventative measures. They stop any activity before it starts.

There are general rules-of-thumb for protecting yourself. The standard principals are simple and may be applied regardless of where you live. Always lock your doors, in both your home and your vehicle, and only park your automobile in well-lit areas. If an unmarked car approaches with a light flashing as a police vehicle would, do not stop until you do so in a public area around other people.

If you believe someone is deliberately following your vehicle, simply pull into the parking lot of a fire station or police station. It is also recommended that you lock you doors at this point and beep your horn until someone comes outside. If someone is following you with dubious intentions, they will drive away.

These measures are reliable for their situations, however, there are times when even the most cautious and careful individual can become victimized by another person. This is the primary reason so many consumers have opted for non-lethal methods of protection.

Many misconceptions have greatly affected the consumers perspective of personal defense. Do you need a black belt in martial arts in order to properly defend your family or your home? A license to carry a weapon? Does it involve hours of training or practice just to know you are prepared?

Fortunately, with the help of modern technology, defending yourself or your home is far easier than it has ever been. There are several non-lethal measures to take that are effective against an attacker or burglar. These simple, precautionary measures are both safe and effective for the consumer households when used and handled responsibly.

The most common non-lethal practices for protecting yourself or your family are: Tasers, stun guns and pepper sprays. These can be easily purchased and are easy to learn how to use.

There are a few standard principals every consumer should know when choosing to utilize any of these methods. Read and retain all documentation when you receive your product. Note any warning messages and store your product out-of-the-reach of children.

For the most effective experience, store your product in a place that is easily accessible. Keep it in a nightstand beside your bed or under the seat in your car.

These products are also convenient due to their portability. Most can be inconspicuously carried in your purse or pocket and many are designed to appear completely benign to someone else. Many of these products are disguised and appear as non-threatening as cell phones.

There are many technical differences between these items. The Internet offers a great deal of information for researching which item will be best for you. There is never a reason to fear when you use all the resources available.

The Coming of Air Tasers

February 25th, 2010 admin No comments

Starting from the prototype, air tasers have gone through many changes. The very first one was created during the late 1960s by Jack Cover who is an aerospace engineer. He made a hand held small cylindrical device that employ gunpowder in order to blast 2 projectiles that can come across 15 feet. This one basically look like a straightened fish hooks that are fixed against a thin insulated wires. As the time evolves, the look and feature of air tasers also evolves.

Nowadays, air tasers are greatly available throughout the globe through most online shops that sell this stuff would possess their own set of restrictions when shipping the product to certain places. There are around 8 states that restrict sellers to ship this product into their place and not to mention those many cities that they are banned.

Indeed, air teasers are the next step to self defense. A hit on any part of the body is an effective method to guard you against attacks thus this is the easiest and most reliable gadget to use during pressing situations. Air tasers are 95 percent proven to be effective in promoting self defense if compared to other similar device. This is the sole gadget that can incapacitate people that are within the influence of PCP as well as other hazardous drugs. Before buying one, check first if it is permitted within your locale to ensure that you are not doing yourself more trouble since owning one within those states will allow someone to see their personal legal consequence.

February 7th, 2010 admin No comments

Have you ever had to file a police report and been subject to “it’s your word against your attacker’s words”. Now technology brings us the Taser Cam which has video and audio capabilities for the X26 and X26C models. You can now back up your actions with this new cutting edge technology. Everytime you use your taser, your actions are recorded with video and audio. It also records subjects in complete darkness using its infrared illuminator. The Taser Cam gives your statement credibility and accountability of the incident prior, during and after using your taser.

There have been many cases where officers and citizens have been put under scrutiny due to the use of tasers on violent suspects. When a suspect is mentally incompetent, high on drugs or a physical threat to themselves or others, officers and citizens have no choice but to use force for the protection of themselves and bystanders. Taser cams account for the credibility of their actions. A statement sometimes doesn’t get to the truth to the matter but video and audio recording of an incident speaks for itself. By using the Taser cams recent studies have reported in 50% decrease in complaints of “Taser Abuse” by citizens.

The Taser Cam is rechargeable and replaces your current Digital Power Magazine (DPM). No tools are modifications are necessary to add the camera. With its self contained rechargeable lithium battery; it can virtually pay for itself over time by reducing the need to purchase additional (DPM). It records up to 1.5 hours in black and white. But the main benefit of the Taser Cam is that you are providing the truth of your actions. Self defense is your right and responsibility. Now you have been given the choice of providing detailed and accurate information in the defense of your actions.

In times of high stress or danger we often do not realize the aspects of defending or protecting ourselves and others. If a Taser Cam lens has been obstructed your central information display (CID) will give you a warning to notify you of the obstruction of your camera. Also included in the Taser Cam package is a USB download cable, software and a wall charger. The Taser X26c is the most advanced personal protection product on the market today, now you can be confident that when using the Taser Cam your actions will be recorded and your credibility will not be questioned.

Video and Audio Proof Of Your Actions Will Speak Louder Than Just Words.

Self Defense-Common Sense Tips for Assault Prevention

January 29th, 2010 admin No comments

Let’s face it! Most common crooks are lazy. Sexual predators are not far behind. I firmly believe that if common sense is used and women in particular take advantage of their sense of instinct they can avoid a heap of trouble.

Here are some common sense tips to help you avoid an assault, sexual assault or rape.

 Use an elevator instead of the stairs. I know you need the exercise but going down a stairway by yourself at night can be a scary thing without anyone around. It is prime ground for perverts.

 If confronted with an armed assailant on foot-TAKE OFF. Only 2% of attackers are armed anyhow. Chances are that his aim isn’t that good. Your chances are better running away than staying and being assaulted or raped.

 If an assailant gets into your car with a gun-step on the gas, gun the car and CRASH THE CAR.

 If an assault from the front appears imminent YELL “Stop or Back Off.” Most assailants are not up to resistance. They expect an easy time of it. Resistance throws most of them for a loop.

 ALWAYS carry some non lethal self defense weapons such as pepper sprays or stun guns. The bad guys use surprise as a weapon. You can use it too. Imagine an assailant grabs you from behind with his arm around your neck and you spray him with some pepper spray.

 ALWAYS carry a personal alarm and be ready to use it.

If you follow these tips you are going a long way to preventing an assault-perhaps even protecting yourself.

Please Note that even though pepper spray is legal in all 50 states, some states and cities have restrictions. Some states and cities have restrictions on stun guns. Check with your local police department. Literally thousands of police departments carry and use pepper spray and stun guns. Why wouldn’t you?

A Comparison of Stun Guns and Pepper Spray

January 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

Stun guns and pepper spray are two of the most popular non-lethal self defense devices. Both of these devices will immediately stop an attacker, giving you several minutes to get away, but do not cause lasting bodily harm. Both come in small enough sizes that they can be conveniently carried in your purse. If you are considering purchasing one of these for self defense, you may not know which to purchase. Should you opt for a stun gun, or a can of pepper spray?

Stun guns are very powerful methods of stopping an assailant, but because of the electrical current running through them, you should be trained before using one. On the other hand, using a can of pepper spray is just like using a can of spray paint; simply aim and press the button. Pepper spray cans are often chosen by people who would feel more comfortable using a device that is already familiar to them. Whichever device you choose, be sure that you would feel comfortable using it in an emergency situation; if not, carrying it is of no use.

Most stun devices must be placed against your attacker’s skin, meaning you must be standing next to them in order for it to be effective. On the other hand, pepper sprays have an effective distance of up to 15 or even 20 feet, depending on the model you choose. However, you must aim the spray at the attacker’s face and have reasonably good aim, as the spray direction can be affected by wind and rain. Those which produce a wide spray rather than a steady stream are easier to use if you are concerned about your aim. Meanwhile, with a stun device you can touch the device to any area of the attacker’s body.

One factor to consider when choosing between stun guns and sprays is the appearance of the device before you have actually used it. The appearance of a stun gun may be enough to deter an assailant without you actually needing to use the device. On the other hand, a can of spray is unlikely to deter an attacker until it is actually used.

Both of these devices can, obviously, be used on a human. However, if you go jogging or otherwise spend a lot of time outdoors, you may want to consider self defense devices to protect yourself against dogs, bears, or other wildlife. In these cases, a can of pepper spray is probably the better option. It is likely to deter any animals, while stun guns can have unknown reactions on animals, and in most cases mean you havr to get uncomfortably close to the animal.

Both pepper spray and stun guns are relatively inexpensive means for self protection, especially when compared to the cost of a gun. Your costs can vary widely depending upon the model you choose, although in the majority of cases, equipping yourself with a stun gun or pepper spray for your safety will cost well less than a hundred dollars.

Generally, both stun guns and pepper spray can be carried legally. Check your local police department for any restrictions on purchasing, carrying, or using these devices. In jurisdictions where there are such limitations, usually stun guns fall under heavier restrictions than pepper spray.

Self Defense – Pepper Spray or Stun Gun – a Comparison

December 5th, 2009 admin No comments
Jack Krohn asked:

To be or not to be?

In New Mexico, the question is red or green? (referring to the chile)

In Chicago it’s the Cubs or White Sox?

Okay so maybe it doesn’t rank up there with those lofty questions, but people ask me all the time which is better a stun gun or pepper spray. Here is a comparison of stun guns and pepper spray using criteria that most people would consider before making a purchase.

COST—Pepper Sprays are less expensive but require refills or replacement. Stun Guns need new batteries occasionally. Pepper Sprays can run from$12.95 – $29.95. Stun Guns from $22.00-$79.95.

EASE OF USE—Both are equally easy to use.

AIMING —Pepper Spray requires some skill and can be effected by wind and rain. With Stun Guns aim is not an issue.

CLOSENESS TO TARGET—Pepper Spray 6-18 feet; Stun Guns have to be right on the target.

LEGAL LIMITATIONS—Pepper Spray is legal in all states but some cities and states have restrictions. Stun Guns are illegal in some states. Check your local police or sheriff’s department for specifics.

LASTING DAMAGE—Neither Pepper Spray nor Stun Guns have lasting damage to the assailant.

SIZE—Lipstick size and larger for Pepper Spray. Stun Guns can be as small as a handheld blackberry and bigger. Both can be concealed in a purse.

STOPPING POWER—Pepper Spray if on target-excellent. Stun Gun-very good.

PERIOD OF IMMOBILIZATION—Pepper Spray will put someone out of action for 15-30 minutes. A Stun Gun will immobilize someone for 3-10 minutes. Both are long enough to get away and/or get help.

INTIMIDATION FACTOR—Pepper Spray will not likely intimidate anyone. However a fully charging Stun Master creates quite a sight and sound-enough to scare some assailants away.

DISGUISABILITY—Both Stun Guns and Pepper Sprays can be disguised as different objects easily.

On the face of it, trying to be objective, I would lean to the pepper spray all things being equal. The problem is all things are not equal. If the attacker is more than 6-10 feet away one or two things can go wrong that could cost you. And remember we are talking about the lives of you, your children, your spouse-you don’t want to leave this to chance.

If the wind is blowing at more than 10-15 miles per hour, which really isn’t much, it can cause the spray, mist or stream, to either go off target or worse blow back in your face. I am not sure which is worse. In any event it will not get you the desired result. You must have a hit right in the face preferably the eyes on the first or second shot. Can you hit that small a target from 10 feet away in the wind, in rain, under stress?

Practice might be one way to instill some confidence in your ability. Hook a string to a paper plate and hang it from a tree branch and fire away. This will instill some confidence in your ability to effectively use pepper spray.

There is so much at stake, potentially your life or those of your loved ones, why not have both? They are both very easy to carry and conceal. Both are effective. Start with the pepper spray and end with the stun gun.

If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The “other guy” is thinking the same thing and YOU are that “other guy”. There is a reason why they call it self defense. You have to protect yourself, your family, your home and business!!

Which stun gun do you recommend?

I am looking into getting a stun gun for self defense. I was wondering which gun is most effective? I see that there are some that are 1 million volts, is the voltage what makes them more painful?

How to Keep Yourself and Your Family Safe

September 20th, 2009 admin No comments
It’s every parent’s nightmare: waking up one night and finding yourself at the mercy of a burglar, without any way to protect yourself or your family. No matter how skilled or competent the police may be, you will still be responsible for the safety of you and your family at that dire moment when they need it the most. So make sure you know how to keep your family safe

Invest in Home Security

Whether you choose to place a few simple deadbolts on your front and backdoors, or opt to install high-tech motion detectors, investing in home security is always a smart thing to do.

Any security system aims to fulfill one, two or all three important of these security measures: keep criminals away from your home, alert you to their presence, or deter them from entering altogether. Try to find home security that fits all three of these security measures and your home will be a much safer place for you and your family to live in.

Security over Privacy

Home security may help you deter burglars, but high shrubs and dim lighting will provide the perfect cover for them to do their thing as they try and enter your home.

As much as privacy is treasured, avoid placing too many barriers around your home, and try to keep it as well lit as possible during the night. These two factors will raise the visibility of your home, and will deter any would-be burglar from trying to enter your home.

Blending In

Criminals have a method of selecting their targets, and one step is ‘marking’ potentially lucrative targets to hit. And targets that stand out the most are the most attractive marks for a burglar to hit.

As much as you would like to flaunt your wealth to get better social standing, you may want to keep things at a minimum if you don’t want your home to be the first in a burglar’s list of marks. A balance between aesthetics and conservatism will help you blend in to your environment while still maintaining a sense of style and uniqueness.

Invest in self defense products

When all else fails, and a burglar is intent on breaking into your home no matter what, a good pepper spray or TASER gun will help you take down even the beefiest criminal on the block without having to kill them to do it.

The non-lethal properties of these self defense products allow you to incapacitate any would-be assailants. Usually, criminals who face decent resistance will back out as soon as possible, but don’t take the risk of playing hero: they may get their bearings sooner than you’d expect. So once you’ve done enough damage to stun them, get your family out of the area and dial the police.

Felicia Didn’t Carry An Ordinary Flashlight

August 26th, 2009 admin No comments
Felicia was about to go off to a great university a few hours drive from home. It was going to be her very first time living away from home, and although she was only slightly nervous, her folks were extremely nervous, especially about the safety of their daughter. Her dad came up with a “going-away” gift for her; it was a stun gun disguised as a flashlight. The thing was fairly large, extremely bright, and ran on three 9-volt batteries.

It also had a 130 decibel alarm, so that the girl, if ever in trouble, or after stunning someone, could attract attention and help from somebody nearby.

This beautiful stun flashlight would fit into Felicia’s book bag although it was an impressive sixteen and a half inches long. It was made out of fiberglass-reinforced plastic, so it didn’t weigh a ton. Felicia’s father taught her how to use it, from pulling it out of her book bag, to switching the safety switch to the on position, to pressing the button and where to touch a guy who might try to attack her. They took the batteries out so that they could role play, with Felicia actually touching this massive piece of self defense right to his shoulder, chest, stomach, or neck areas.

The stun flashlight had an impressive 200,000 volts of stun power, which would be sufficient to take down even the largest of assailants. Felicia’s mom was hoping that she would never have to use it, and her daughter shared the same feelings, but the two of them agreed with the father, that she should always carry it, just in case of an unforeseen circumstance. So, the three were in agreement, and when the daughter went off to school at the beginning of freshman year, she brought her trusty friend with her. She also carried it with her, in the book bag at all times. When sleeping in her dorm room, she always had it just under the bed where she could quickly grab it.

Luckily all of this happened four years ago, and Felicia just graduated from that school, and is back in her hometown working as a registered nurse. She never had to use the stun flashlight once while at school, thank goodness, but at least she always felt peace of mind because of having it with her at all times. Now she carries it to and from work, as she works the late night shift at the local hospital.

Maybe you or someone you love needs one of these little beauties, and if so, here is a great website where you can order one for yourself…
