If you are interested in your self protection and personal safety, you may be interested in purchasing any number of small devices or gadgets that promise to protect you from bad guys. Not all of them are consistently effective though, or easily usable. Others aren’t completely safe or could be quite expensive. The solution that scores the best in all of these areas and more is the stun baton. Take a look at this guide to learn how stun batons can keep you safe from anybody trying to do you harm.

One of the great aspects of a stun baton is how easy and convenient it is. Due to its design, it can be easily brought with you while you take a walk or kept in the glove compartment of your car while you’re driving around town. Sizes range typically from 10 inches to 18 inches, allowing you to choose whatever works best for you. There’s nothing you need to learn in order to use it, and all you need for safe and effective operation are a few batteries.

An added benefit for many models of stun batons is that they often come with either flashlight features or loud alarms. This gives you more weapons in the battle for self defense. You can help alert other people that you need help while potentially scaring off the would-be criminal. You can additionally spot someone approaching from a long distance and the stun baton lets them know that you won’t be messed with. The more tools at your disposal the better, and you’ll find that many stun batons come with these options such as this to increase their effectiveness and your safety.

With a stun baton you only need to make contact with a person for a few seconds or even less to achieve maximum effectiveness. This makes it extremely quick to get the job done and protect yourself before someone has an opportunity to disarm you or make a counterattack. Additionally, stun batons are typically charged down the sides as well, which means that even if someone tries to grasp the baton to keep you from hitting them or to move the impact, you’ll still be striking with success. It’s hard to use this improperly and it’s almost a foolproof way of protecting yourself.

Even better, as opposed to many devices where you are shooting or firing something, there’s no danger of hitting yourself or any other innocent person. Plus, with the batteries you can have hundreds of uses before you need to worry about changing anything, leaving you secure with the fact that you know you’re protected with your stun baton.

Stun batons can do all of this and more. They are the ultimate tool in protecting yourself from any kind of criminal or bad guy. Whether you take long runs through parks at night, just want to feel comfortable as you walk to your car after work or dinner or anything else, a stun baton will protect you in all situations.

By: Larry Zolna

About the Author:

“Arms in the hands of citizens may be used at individual discretion… in private self-defense.”
John Adams

Self defense is often more complicated than it looks from the couch while watching TV. Women just seem to be able to dig deep and instinctively know the perfect response to any type of attack. The women prevail more often than not and escape unscathed.

So what did John Adams mean by arms and how do they apply to the soccer Mom next door? John Adams most likely meant items such as guns; however, we should all develop means of self defense and be able to use them at our discretion.

The very first thing to learn about self defense is to avoid situations that put you in danger. Be aware of your surroundings and make wise choices about where you will be and when it is OK to be there. Use your brain and not your brawn, first and foremost.

Make your goal to get out of any situation that goes bad. Instead of focusing on fighting, focus on keeping yourself safe and on getting away. There is a reason for references to your “gut feeling”. Often times your instincts can help you to be aware of danger before it becomes a conscience thought. That funny feeling could be more than just a feeling and should be heeded.

Having a cool head can also go a long way. A panic attack is going to do you absolutely no good and could make things much worse. It is important to do what you can to diffuse a bad situation. If someone wants your purse, there is no reason good enough to stop you from complying.

So where do you begin when the goal is to keep yourself safe? Number one is to be aware of what is going on around you. Chose the parking spot under the light, avoid dark streets when walking outdoors, and use your common sense. These are basics that can easily become good habits.

We do not all want to walk around with concealed “arms” on our person. That is why it is good to explore the options available for personal protection. There are items such as stun guns, Tasers, and pepper spray that can be a great asset in matters of self defense. So be it an instrument used for self protection, your wits, or your own arms, be smart and use your best weapon – your mind.

By: Joseph Pressley

About the Author:

Whereas stun guns have obtained significant media attention, many still ask, “how do stun guns work?” For the most part, a stun gun is a highly effective personal safety tool that can be carried in almost any part of the country. Right now, nine states prohibit the ownership of stun guns, as do some individual cities and counties. For those who have the legal option of carrying a stun gun, this compact yet powerful weapon provides an effective means of self defense in an easily concealable package. Understanding how stun guns work can mean the difference between escape and jeopardy.

How do Stun Guns Work against Perpetrators?

A stun gun works by delivering an electrical shock to the body that is high in voltage but low in wattage, making it safe without causing any long-term effects. How do stun guns work in discharging voltage? When the stun gun is applied to the body, an electrical circuit is formed that allows the flow of the electricity through the recipient’s body. How do stun guns work then in debilitating the perpetrator? The electricity disrupts the brain’s signals to the voluntary muscle groups, rendering such areas as the legs, arms, hands, and feet useless. Involuntary muscles continue to function, such as those that control the heart and lungs. Bowel function may or may not let go.

In an attack, however, how do stun guns work instantly in protecting the victim? When a stun gun blow is delivered, the recipient usually goes rigid from head to toe. The knees may buckle, or the person may fall entirely to the ground. They will usually remain rigid throughout the shock cycle. There will be no long-lasting harmful effects from receiving a stun gun shock, although the muscles may be sore for a few days due to them contracting forcefully during the application of the shock.

How do stun guns work in terms of mental debilitating for the perpetrator? In addition to the physical effects, the recipient of a stun gun shock will become confused and disoriented, which may last up to several minutes. While the physical effects of a stun gun application fade almost immediately once the electricity flow has ceased, the psychological effects remain in place for a while. Thus, how do stun guns work most powerfully? Indeed, the combination of physical incapacitation with the mental confusion that ensues provides the user an excellent opportunity for escape from an attacker.

Who Do Stun Guns Work Against?

How do stun guns work against all perpetrators? The stun gun will provide an effective, disabling blow to almost any attacker. Keep in mind, though, that nothing is entirely foolproof. Certain people may not be affected by the shock that the stun gun delivers, although this is extremely rare. Those who may not experience the full effects of a stun gun include the mentally ill, or those who are under a heavy influence of illegal drugs or alcohol.

Defeating a Stun Gun:

As of right now, civilians do not have a way to defeat the effects of a stun gun that is used against them. Only those described above may be immune from experiencing the full effects, but there is no way to completely circumvent the effectiveness of a stun gun.

A recent device invented by an electrical engineer is a protective fabric that interrupts the electrical current’s ability to close a circuit with the human body. The electricity uses the fabric to close the circuit instead, protecting the body from experiencing the effects. This fabric is currently only available to the military and to law enforcement officials.

Whereas many people had questions pertaining to “how do stun guns work,” the powerful mental and physical debilitating effects of stun gun voltage make it an excellent personal safety device.

By: John Audlee

About the Author:

You cannot take away the fear that you will feel once you hear the news in your own television about women being raped, houses ransacked or children being kidnapped. These are just few of the different crimes that are quite alarming in the society today. Although there are police authorities ready to help you, your main concern is still on your safety when they are not around. However, this is not a problem at all because you can always find a solution when safety is your priority. You can always rely on your own initiative to look for ways like owning a self defense device.

When you talk of self protection, stun gun can provide you with your wishes for safety. It is one of the handy devices of today that will equip you with the self defense that you need anywhere. It can be used directly to the body of your attacker so that you will not become a victim of crimes. These stunning devices have different designs and sizes that you can choose from. Although different in form, they all have one purpose which is to put down your assailant.

The voltages of this kind of stun gun vary from one product to another. It can range from as little as 80,000 volts to a million and even more. These volts provide the device the power to immobilize a person for a moment. Moreover, it contains the smallest ampere that makes it safer to use. Once the electricity is emitted, it can affect the nerve transmission and muscular function of the person being hit.

How the stun guns work is quite simple to comprehend. The electric signal produced by the stunning device will serve as a disturbance to the normal transmission of signals between the brain and the nerves. These cause spasms in the muscle and immobilization. The person cannot perform motion temporarily. Aside from that, the attacker will feel weak all over the body and will have a moment of confusion.

Generally, the higher the voltage of this stunning device, the more power it can provide to the owner. The most powerful stun gun depends on the opinion of the owner. There are many kinds of stun gun in the world that you can have a choice of what really is the most powerful stun gun for you. You just have to consider the number of volts, the convenience it can provide to you and the reliability you can get from it.

Although different people may have different preferences when it comes to what is the most powerful, stun guns all have the same purpose which is to give you safety. If you have a stun gun, no matter how many volts it possesses or what its form might be, you can always be assured that you will have a personal protector any where you might go especially when there are no police authorities around to help you. This stunning tool is your best reliable partner that will save you from some situations that threatens your life.

By: Joseph Pressley

About the Author:

Although you may think that a stun gun and a taser are the same thing, and in fact the terms are often used interchangeably, they are actually two separate devices. Taser refers to a brand name, while ‘stun gun’ refers to a category of self defense devices.

Taser technology, which was developed during the 1960s and 1970s, uses a special cartridge of nitrogen gas to shoot a pair of barbed projectiles at the assailant. These projectiles can fly through the air up to fifteen feet away. A pair of wires connects them to the hand held taser device, which sends a 50,000 volt shock into the attacker. This shock can go through thick clothing or a bullet-proof vest; the projectiles do not need to strike skin in order to work. After the nitrogen cartridge has been used to propel the projectiles, most newer taser can still be used close-up, in the same way as a stun gun is used.

Stun guns, unlike a taser, do not fire anything at the attacker. Instead, they must come in direct contact with the person. These hand held units send a jolt of anywhere from 50,000 to a million volts through the assailant’s body upon contact. You will need to be much closer to the assailant than if you were using a taser device, but they often deliver a higher voltage. Although stun devices usually include two prongs, with sparks going between the two prongs, this feature is mainly to deter attackers without actually having to use the device on them. The actual power comes from the ends of the two prongs.

The biggest difference between the use of a taser and the use of a stun device is that the stun gun must be used in close range with the attacker, while the taser allows for greater distance. Plus, a stun device can be used repeatedly, while a taser cannot be shot twice due to its reliance on single-use nitrogen cartridges.

For most consumers, the deciding factor may be cost. A taser can cost several hundred dollars, and each use requires a new cartridge. On the other hand, stun guns can be purchased for less than a hundred dollars, and use regular batteries. Although a taser is slightly more effective, they are also quite expensive for the average consumer.

If you plan to carry the device with you, consider that a taser is usually the size of a regular handgun, while stun guns come in a variety of sizes, some much smaller.

When it comes to legal issues, in most cases stun guns and tasers are treated the same. They are legal most places in the united states, although you should check with your local police department for state or local restrictions on purchasing, carrying, or using such devices.

By: Richard Armen

About the Author:

Although many people think that stun guns are dangerous, they are very helpful when you find yourself in a situation that requires some self-defense. How these guns work is they pass an extremely high voltage pulse through the individual’s nervous and muscle system. All the energy gets dumped into the muscles and this is not done normally, but rather at quite a high pulse frequency.

What this does is it causes the muscles to function very rapidly but also not very efficiently, giving you time to get help or get away. Your attacker will find it difficult to move and will have to be still for some time in order to recover.

Pepper spray on the other hand, although also very effective, is a little more difficult to use in a situation where you have to be quick. However, if you are able to reach for the spray and direct it into your attacker’s face with no problem, then that is fine.

Pepper spray when sprayed in the face will make your attacker stop moving and probably sit down. Their eyes will be burning so much they will feel like they are going to pop out and if they breathed in some of the spray, which they should have if you sprayed enough, they will find it difficult to breathe for some time. Once again, this will leave you with enough time to escape and call for help.

When shopping for stun guns you should be aware that there are many makes and models for you to choose from, each with differing voltages. If you are looking for a good little pocket or purse sized weapon look no further than the Streetwise Small Fry Stun Gun which carries 400,000 to 1,000,000 volts! Other stun guns like the Muscle Man are just as effective at 100,000- 600,000 or the Panther Stun Gun at 100,000 to 600,000 volts.

If you are interested in something, a little different you could go with the Blast Knuckles Stun Gun, hold this puppy in your fist and shock an attacker with 950,000 volts. For some serious self-defense there are stun guns with 1.2 million volts or more. Stun guns come in a variety of shapes and sizes so choose the one you are most comfortable with.

You also have many options when you are looking at pepper spray. There are units which can be carried in your pocket or on a key ring, models that look like ordinary items such as a pen or lipstick case. There are also pepper spray units designed for jogging or cycling and for home defense. You can choose the spray that best suits your needs. As you can see there is one for almost every occasion.

Carrying some form of protection wherever you go is important, you should strive to have a self-defense device with you always. Stun guns or pepper spray, it really does not matter which you prefer in fact you can carry both if you like. Just do not be caught off guard, let bad people know quickly that they messed with the wrong person! Self-protection is a right not an option so make sure you are always safe whether you are at work, in public or even at home, you can never be too careful.

By: William M Ward

About the Author:

Two of the most powerful and effective self defense devices in this day and age are the TASER device and the stun gun. Both are non lethal electroshock weapons which adapts the high-current, low-voltage electrical discharge technology. This device dispenses electric shock designed to disrupt the body’s nervous system thus preventing an attack. Although the stun gun and the TASER device have the same concept, they differ in a lot of ways.

Range and Distance

If you have to use your stun gun, you need to be within striking distance of the attacker. You have to press the gun against the attacker’s body and hold the trigger so you can pass the electric charge.

On the other hand, a TASER device can be used and is very effective even from a distance of 15 to 20 ft.

Effects on the attacker’s body

The electric discharge from a stun gun affects the nervous system of the attacker, creating muscle spasms in the process. This decreases his energy making him too weak to continue with the attack. However, the effect is dependent on pain so there is a big possibility that a stun gun will not work on an attacker who is under the influence of drugs and alcohol since he may be able to tolerate pain.

A TASER device affects not only the nervous and muscular system of the body but also the motor system. This renders the attacker momentarily incapacitated. It disrupts the brain’s ability to control the muscles in the body creating an instantaneous powerlessness not based on pain and which cannot be overcome.

Usage

The stun gun has continuous charges when being used which means that you can stun the attacker for as many times as you want depending on the gravity of the situation.

A TASER device is for single use only. Once you utilized it, you need to reload the propellant by buying a new cartridge.

Despite their differences, both the stun gun and a TASER device are effective devices for self-defense and personal protection. Carrying either of these two is better than being empty handed in danger of being attacked.

By: Annabelle Lehoux

About the Author:
