Rechargeable Stun Guns

March 5th, 2010 admin No comments

In today’s dangerous world, is there anything more important than protecting yourself and your family from attack? Whether walking in a dark parking lot or fighting off an intruder, a stun gun is one of the best ways to protect yourself from crime. However, people often forget how important it is to have it at the ready when they need it. How scary would it be to pull out your stun device to ward off a threat, only to find out that it’s out of batteries?

Eliminate your worry about whether the stun gun will perform when it’s needed by choosing a rechargeable version. Incorporating the latest and greatest in stun device technology, these devices remove the need for replacing the batteries. Because it’s often difficult to remember when your batteries were last changed, and how much power they might have left, a rechargeable one provides you with the peace of mind that it will always be ready to defend you in your time of need.

A rechargeable stun device offers the same features found on a regular model, such as a safety switch and built-in personal alarm. Rechargeable ones are offered by many of the top names in the personal protection industry, and offer all of the power and voltage of a regular stun gun. The ability to recharge the gun should be considered a highly desirable feature when you are comparing the available stun devices on the market today.

In addition to giving you peace of mind, opting for a rechargeable stun gun is also a cost-saving measure. Instead of replacing the standard 9 volt alkaline battery, your rechargeable model plugs right into the wall. If used frequently, a stun device can go through plenty of batteries to make a rechargeable unit well worth the extra cost. When your self defense device is low on power, just plug it into the charger for a couple of hours. Most rechargeable units can be recharged up to 800 times, more than a lifetime of use. In a pinch, a regular 9 volt alkaline battery can also be used in these devices. Although they are a little more expensive than other stun devices, a rechargeable stun gun can be well worth it when you compare the long-term costs. These convenient devices ensure that yours will always have power, no matter where you are!

It is often advised that firing “warning shots” with your stun device will scare off many potential attackers. The electric current flowing from probe to probe, as well as the crackling noise made by the electricity, is certainly intimidating. If you get in the habit of using your stun gun for this purpose, you’ll find the batteries waning more frequently. Not to worry, though. With a rechargeable stun gun, you can feel free to use your stun gun as many times as necessary.

Considering the importance of reliability when it comes to self defense devices, is it any wonder why more and more people are relying on stun guns, and particularly rechargeable models, to protect themselves?

Losing the Right to Defend Ourselves

February 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

My article today deals with products to defend yourself and loved one’s. Its been amazing to me that we have to continue monitoring state laws for changes. Gun laws are the thing that our country is focused on so we have not noticed that passive weapons are being taken away too. There are laws in place that restrict pepper spray. Who are we kidding with these laws? Does anyone really think that if a criminal wants to use pepper spray on you a law is going to make a difference?

I understand this is one of the biggest arguments for anyone that wants to keep their weapons but it never made as much sense as now. The idea behind the law is that criminals are using pepper spray and stun guns to subdue their victims. I don’t know about you but I would much rather be shocked then stabbed or shot. Also if we can defend ourselves without the emotional effects of killing someone wouldn’t that make more sense.

The state of Michigan as an example says that pepper spray can only be a 2% solution and the sprayer no larger then 35 grams. When someone is coming after me I’m not going to worry about how bad it will hurt when I spray a full solution of spray in his eyes. I just want him to stop what he is doing and do it now!

I know most of us have seen videos of criminals that are full of an illegal drug and nothing seems to slow them down. So we are suppose to use a weaker spray on them so it won’t hurt so much? I want that person on the ground screaming in pain because that was what they were about to do to me. A good OC pepper spray with a rating of 2.5 million scoville heat units will stop anyone. Habanera peppers are rated around 300,000 so you can imagine what an attacker would feel and its effects are immediate.

Another good self defense weapon is the stun gun and there are at least nine states so far that have made them illegal for use or very restricted as to who can have them. I have lived in a couple of these states and I don’t remember ever seeing this come across any ballot. Regardless of what people may think crime rates have climbed every year. Assaults, rape, and armed robbery top the list but we are supposed to give up our personal protection weapons. I hope everyone reading this takes the time to look into the laws in your state and work to turn the tide against these trends. But please take the time to contact the politicians in your area and tell them your concerns. We should as American citizens at least have the right to defend ourselves.

Self Defense – How to Prevent an Assault

January 19th, 2010 admin No comments

Here are some facts every parent of a college age child should know.

–One out of four women will be sexually assaulted on a college campus.

–One out of eight women will be raped while in college.

–84% of women who were raped knew their assailant.

–57% of rapes occur on a date.

–75% of male students and 55% of female students involved in date rape had been drinking or using drugs.

These are the reported figures. There is a lot of data suggesting that most rapes go unreported. One study showed that only 5 % of victims of rape or attempted rape report it to college police.

But EVERY woman is a potential target of these perverted assailants. An assault occurs every 29 seconds. Most sexual assaults can be avoided by using some common sense and being armed with knowledge of what to avoid and armed with some non lethal self defense weapons.

Let’s look at some things you should know to help prevent an assault …..

LOOK. Look around you and be aware of your surroundings-hiding places, people following you, etc. If confronted by an assailant look him straight in the eye so he knows for sure that you will remember what he looks like in a police lineup.

YELL. There are two things about a shout. One it attracts the attention of others. Second it deters assailants. They want an easy target not someone who is going to resist.

SHOW. If you are carrying a non lethal self defense weapon SHOW IT. Sometimes the sound of a discharging stun gun is enough to frighten them off. Try using a combination of SHOW and YELL. Try something like “back off or you’ll get 900,000 volts.”

PAIN. Learn where some key points for pain are and how to inflict as much pain as you can quickly. Eye gouges, pinch or bite under the arm or the upper inner thigh, or the groin areas are all sensitive and subject o maximum amounts of pain. A sharp blow across the bridge of an assailant’s nose will stop him dead in his tracks. You want just enough time to escape. Consider using your elbow if you can-it is the strongest point on your body.

INSTINCTS. Always trust your INSTINCTS. Women are usually more insightful than men-use it to your advantage.

CARRY. Always carry some non lethal self defense weapons. A stun gun, taser, pepper spray, a telescopic baton are good examples. Each if used will afford you enough time to escape and get help.

These tips can help you prevent an assault on yourself or any woman you know. Used wisely they may save a life-maybe yours.

Please Note that even though pepper spray is legal in all 50 states, some states and cities have restrictions. Some states and cities have restrictions on stun guns. Check with your local police department. Literally thousands of police departments carry and use pepper spray and stun guns. Why wouldn’t you?

What You Need to Know About Tasers

January 19th, 2010 admin No comments

Introduction

Tasers are in the news now more than ever. More police are using the device as a non-lethal aid to control rowdy out-of-control suspects. Consumers are also buying Taser as a non-lethal self defense weapon. Some media incorrectly use “Taser” and “stun gun” interchangeably. A Taser is a type of stun gun with shooting tethered electrodes that attach onto the assailant. A stun gun contains two attached electrodes that require clothing or skin contact and is NOT a Taser.

Although a prototype electrical device similar to the Taser was invented in 1969, it wasn’t until the 1990s that the company Air Taser was born. Early customers were citizens concerned about personal safety. When Taser changed its name in 1998 to Taser International they began to market their devices to law enforcement. The timing was right. Law enforcement had been seeking an effective alternative to lethal force.

How They Work

The Taser (or Air Taser) is a specialized stun gun. Once the gun is fired, compressed nitrogen sends out two darts each attached to 15 feet of fine wire. These probes attach to the subject’s clothing. 50,000 volts travel down the wires. The subject goes down in pain. Because the amperage is low, no permanent damage is done and the effects are temporary. A threatening or out-of-control individual is subdued without lethal force. Taser International claims near 100% effectiveness.

Tasers, like all stun guns, use a high voltage, low amperage electrical signal that when administered causes the complete loss of neuro-muscular control. Taser’s EMD (Electro Muscular Disruption) weapons use a more powerful 18 to 26 watt electrical signal to completely override the central nervous system and directly control the skeletal muscles.

The Taser uses a timing mechanism to deliver the jolt. The Air Taser releases an electric current in a pre-set time sequence (an initial seven seconds followed by several 1.8 second breaks for a total time of about 30 seconds in each cycle). This cycle ensures that the nervous system of the target does not recover instantly to allow him to remove the probes.

Effects

This EMD effect causes an uncontrollable contraction of the muscle tissue, allowing the gun to physically debilitate a target regardless of pain tolerance or mental focus. Rather than simply interfering with communication between the brain and muscles, the Advanced Taser EMD systems directly tell the muscles what to do: contract until the target is in a docile position on the ground.

A person hit with an Advanced Taser will feel dazed for several minutes. The pulsating electrical output causes involuntary muscle contractions and a resulting sense of vertigo. It can momentarily stun or render an attacker unconscious. Yet, the Taser’s low electrical amperage and short duration of pulsating current ensures a non-lethal charge. Moreover, it does not cause permanent damage or long-term aftereffects to muscles, nerves or other body functions. A January 1987 Annals of Emergency Medicine study reported TASER technology leaves no long term injuries compared with 50% long term injuries for gun shot injuries.

Are Tasers Safe?

There is a plethora of information concerning Taser safety both scientific and anecdotal. In summary, most studies conclude that the Taser’s effects are temporary with no ill after effects. Deaths have occurred after the administration of the Taser. Independent reviews showed most fatalities were due to pre-existing conditions, drugs or in some case, over-administration.

Police are generally enthusiastic about the results of Taser. Florida Orange County Sheriffs Department reported a 80% reduction of injuries to sheriffs in 2002, the first year of Taser use. The Phoenix police department reported a 67% reduction in suspect injuries in 2004 and attributed the results to Taser use. In South Bend Indiana, officer injuries were down by 67% in the last half of 2003 compared to no Taser use in the first half.

Conclusion

It’s a fact–Tasers work, clear and simple. They are nearly 100% effective in the field. The Air Taser is non-destructive to nerves, muscles and other body elements. Unlike regular stun guns that require actual contact with an assailant, Tasers can be fired up to 15 feet away. As with all self-defense products, the user must exercise sound judgment in their use and application. The latest model C2 Taser brings the price down to the consumer level. It comes in four fashion colors and is lightweight and easy to handle.

Tasers For Self-Defense In Schools

January 13th, 2010 admin No comments

Our children enter a potentially dangerous situation every day that they ride the bus or step foot in a school building. Some of the most disturbing cases that have been brought to light by the media lately revolve around incidents that have taken place during school hours. Teenagers have planned and plotted against their teachers and peers. They have brought weapons to school with the intent of carrying out these plans. Some have gotten away with it, while others have been caught in the planning stages.

This brings up the debate of whether Tasers should be allowed for self-defense in schools. It’s easy to see why teachers, administrators and other school personnel need the ability to protect themselves and the students. One argument is that only trained police officers should be allowed to carry a Taser in a school building. A security guard or administrator does not have the authority to take it upon themselves and Taser students who are out of control.

The Benefits of Using Tasers at School

One reason Tasers are effective is because they’re quick and allow you time to react and get help when you’re in trouble. Of course it isn’t ideal to Taser children, however, you must be prepared if the need arises.

Tasers are:

Non-lethal. Able to stop a person from up to 15 feet away. This gives you the ability to stop an intruder without getting too close. Used by police, security officers and homemakers. Have more power than a stun gun. 24 W of electric power that effectively stops an intruder. Safe and effective. Require a background check before you can carry it around. Require anyone who carries it to be over 18 years old.

How Do Tasers Work?

A Taser is a gun-like weapon that shoots two darts that attach to the attackers clothes or skin. An electric current passes through fine wires that connect the two darts to the Taser device. The electric current temporarily stuns the person it hits. The attacker loses muscular control and falls to the floor. The idea of using a Taser is to stop a dangerous person from doing harm to you without inflicting permanent damage to them.

Inappropriate Use of Tasers

One reason the debate over using Tasers in schools is the opportunity for them to be used inappropriately. It would give teachers and administrators a sense of power and power is often misused. There are others, however, who feel that Tasers are a necessary evil to:

Provide protection from misguided students. Provide protection from angry parents. Provide protection from a person who enters school grounds that it isn’t supposed to be there. To stop riots and enforce crowd control. To break up fights if they get out of hand.

>Critics of Tasers often point to the isolated incidents where a person died after a Taser was used against them. It is true that there have been some cases of Taser use that resulted in death, but these ARE ISOLATED incidents. The media rarely reports on situations where a Taser is used and a potentially lethal incident is avoided in a non-lethal manner because a Taser was used to subdue a criminal rather than a gun.

Using a gun in these situations almost always results in death. This is why a gun is a lethal weapon. Using a Taser rarely results in death and is why Tasers are considered non-lethal weapons.

The bottom line is that students, teachers and administrators deserve a way to protect themselves. In recent years, schools have become a battleground and even those students who were not originally on the “hit list” sometimes are put in harm’s way.

It is today’s reality that innocent people sometimes die because no one has the power to stop an out-of-control teenager. Tasers may or may not be the answer for self defense in our schools. One thing most people all agree on is that the violence in our schools needs to be stopped.

How to Protect Against Dog Attacks and Dog Bites

January 10th, 2010 admin No comments

Of all the things going on in my world of self defense and home security products-burglary, rape, assault, self defense, home security, et.al. I get more calls and more inquiries on this topic than any other. To me it is amazing. Yet there it is! It blows me away!! How to protect against dog attacks and dog bites.

More than women’s self defense, more than self defense, more than home security, more than any other single topic-this is, as they say, the pick of the litter.

Anecdotally the other day I got a phone all from a frantic lady whose daughter and her pit bull puppy were attacked when they went to a doggie park. She was scared to death and her daughters’ dog almost got killed.

“Police in Truro Nova Scotia say they used a stun gun to control an approaching rotweiller on Sunday evening.

Police were called by a resident in the Nova Scotia community who became concerned when they saw the animal had escaped from its owner. Staff Sgt. Randy MacKenzie says the dog ran toward an officer, but made a hasty retreat after being stunned.

MacKenzie says aside from the temporary effect on the dog, there were no injuries to the animal or the officer.”

I am not going to get preachy here but c’mon. Dogs are animals. Animals have instincts. One of those instincts is to fight and in some instances kill. It makes no difference if your dog is trained or not. When those instincts kick in, dogs will do what dogs do. Best you or your kids not be in the way.

The very first article I wrote about this nearly 18 months ago I recommended a dog pepper spray and a dog repeller that sends out an ultrasonic noise only dogs can hear. That was then.

Now I recommend a full strength Mace Pepper Gel and an 800,000 volt stun baton. The reasons for the change are simple. Dogs that run loose in my humble opinion do not deserve any consideration nor do their owners. Far too many people get hurt or traumatized by charging dogs not on leashes.

Some breeds do not respond well or at all to traditional fixes.

There is no certain way to prevent a dog from charging you and your best friend.

You have every right to do what you need to do to protect yourself and your dog!

Non Lethal Self Defense Weapons For Self Defense

January 9th, 2010 admin No comments

You never know when you are going to need self defense and when non lethal self defense weapons such as stun guns and mace or pepper sprays are going to come in useful. You can be attacked at anytime for any reason: rape, theft, sheer badness, who knows, they all happen to men and women every day of every week.

Yes, men. I can hear you think there, but men get mugged – of course they do, and also get raped. That’s a well known fact in this sick society so unless you want to travel with a concealed gun everywhere, you should carry some form of non lethal self defense weapon. These include pepper sprays, mace, tazers and stun guns. However, there are certain aspects of them that you should be aware of before purchasing them.

The problems with guns is that people buy them and when the time comes they are either afraid to use them because it could kill their assailant, or don’t know how. Some have even been known to fire a gun and injured themselves with the recoil. You only need a slight hesitation to fire and your assailant will be upon you and if you have a gun he will have no mercy.

However, few will hesitate with a pepper spray or a stun gun, and both are very effective, which is why in some respects these are better for general self defense than a gun. Guns have to be concealed, so there is no deterrent through the attacker knowing you have one. That means that if you carry a gun you will have to be prepared to use it, which also means that you will have to be prepared to kill a human being. While that is not a problem to some, it is to most decent citizens, man or woman, and so you are better without it, and better to be armed with something you can use without hesitation.

Hesitation can cost you your life in certain situations, so go for a stun gun or a pepper spray. The spray is very effective only if the assailant is not wearing glasses, so the stun gun is likely to be your best first choice. Keep one in your purse and the other in a coat pocket. You will only have time to use the one, but if your purse is stolen the stun gun might be useful to hit the attacker as he or she tries to turn and run away with the purse.

Here are some tips on how to choose your non lethal self defense weapon, and how to use it for self defense. First, decide which you prefer – a spray or a tazer or stun gun. The latter is very effective if you can get the skin or through light clothing, and the former if the attacker is not wearing glasses.

Learn how to use it when you buy it: use a target at average height than practice at various distances until you understand the limitations of your choice of weapon. In self defense, you will have to discharge your stun gun or pepper spray at just the right distance for maximum effect. Any more and you might either miss, or your spray will be too spread out to be effective. Any less and your spray will have to be more accurate, and your stun gun might not be effective since you won’t be able to aim it properly to avoid heavy clothing.

One the distance is second nature to you, practice at various heights, simulating attackers of different sizes. Practice until you are proficient and can pull out your weapon and use it any height and the correct distance without thought. You won’t have time to think, and in a real situation will have to react automatically – that is the skill that practice gives you.

Once have decided on one product stay with it. Don’t change because if you do you will have to go through all that practice one again. Not all stun guns and pepper sprays are the same, and if you change your brand the distance and spread might be different.

It is important that you can defend yourself in the street since the streets of most major cities are becoming dangerous, especially at night. However, the more people that fight back then the more the rapists and muggers will be discouraged and, who knows, the actions of people like you might just make our streets safer. Nobody is going to continue if they know that they are liable to face somebody with a stun gun or mace spray.

Non lethal self defense weapons for personal self defense are becoming more popular because they work, and not only that but they give those that use them successfully a feeling of satisfaction. They give the muggers a feeling of something else.

Advantages of Nonlethal Self Defense Products Over Guns

January 9th, 2010 admin No comments

Have you ever felt insecure or threatened when walking alone on the street? What about walking across your college campus in the middle of the night? Who hasn’t felt the distinct possibility of becoming a victim of crime at one point or another? It is easy to feel helpless and vulnerable, but it doesn’t have to be this way. The best way to respond to this feeling is to carry a non-lethal self defense weapon so that you are prepared to fight back. In addition to offering you an effective way to protect yourself, there are a number of reasons why non-lethal products like pepper spray, stun guns, or TASER devices make a much better choice than arming yourself with a gun.

First, the cost of any of these devices is much lower than the cost of any handgun. A quality handgun can set you back hundreds or even thousands of dollars, while even the most stun gun or TASER device won’t be much more than a hundred, if at all. Also consider the cost of ammunition if you choose to go the handgun route. Nonlethal self defense devices are simply the most cost effective method of making sure that you can get yourself out of a potentially violent situation.

Most states require licensing and permits, and have other restrictions on carrying lethal weapons. In most cases, however, pepper spray and other non-lethal devices fall under less stringent requirements. Although you may need a permit or training class, it is generally much easier to carry pepper spray, a stun gun, or a TASER device in your handbag than a gun.

Not only will you not be required to undergo training to carry pepper spray and stun guns, but you won’t need it. Both of these devices are surprisingly easy to use. For the most part, simply aim and discharge. If you can use a spray can of paint, you can use either of these devices. Their ease of use is one of the main reasons why they are such popular devices for self defense. You don’t have to worry about how to actually use them if you find yourself in a self defense situation, unlike a handgun – is it loaded properly? Is it ready to shoot? How do I aim it? Nonlethal self defense products are designed to be user friendly.

Non-lethal devices are also more convenient. You don’t have to worry about the disastrous consequences of accidental discharge, nor are there rules against their concealment. You needn’t worry about the consequences of the attacker using your self defense device against you, nor must you be concerned about the possibility of killing someone. Stun guns and pepper spray are effective self defense tools that keep he owner safe while also limiting your liability.

Most of your nonlethal self defense options are much smaller than a handgun. In fact, pepper spray can be found in keychain canisters, while stun guns come in sizes as small as a cell phone. These will fit nicely into a pocket or even the smallest purse, where you’ll be able to get to them quickly when you need them.

As you can see, there are many advantages to carrying a personal self defense weapon such as a stun gun or pepper spray over a traditional handgun. When it comes to your safety and security, don’t be caught unprepared. Arm yourself with an affordable and easy to use nonlethal means of self defense today.

A Stun Gun For Grandma

December 31st, 2009 admin No comments

This year, more than ever before, I’ve noticed a sickening trend. More and more news reports of people attacking, mugging and beating older people. Our elderly, our parents and grand parents.

It’s hard for me to believe anyone could do that. If drugs are that important to you, you should know it is time to get some serious help. Check into a mental ward. Or turn yourself in to a jail, or a rehabilitation hospital.

It is time for us to stand up and get something done about this. Are there not harsher penalties for **** Crimes? Why not do the same for our elderly? I believe they have the right to stay independent for as long as possible. My Mother is determined to, and I applaud her for that. Although I worry about her constantly. A while ago, I was so nervous about her that I called my brother in Seattle. I told him that I thought she was doing too much and wearing herself out. He gave me the best advice possible. He said, “Let her do what she can, while she still can. It means a lot to her.”

I saw a news report where a man tried to take away the car keys of a man in his nineties. The man refused to just give the guy his keys, so the monster beat him to the ground and took the keys and the car anyway. A security camera filmed the whole thing.

There are more stories of the mean people – it’s not always men – following older people home and robbing them. Even when the victim does cooperate, they still get beat up.

And so, when my Mother requested a stun gun for Christmas, I started doing my research. I had to make sure it would be safe for her. I was delighted to find that they now have stun guns that look like cell phones and other common items. They even have them in pink! I found a great one for Mom. It has an audible alarm to try to scare the offenders off. If that doesn’t work you have to resort to actually using the stun gun. The best thing is that it has a safety pin in it.  If the attacker takes it away from them, the safety pin comes out and is still around their wrist. Hopefully by then, other people will have noticed the ruckus and come to help.

Once you do stun a person, depending on the voltage, the attacker will lose control of his muscles and his brain becomes foggy and confused for about ten minutes, giving you or your loved one time to get away. Another benefit of just having it with you is that you feel safer and more relaxed. Not so terrified to go to the drug store for something you need.

The drug store popped into mind because, even though we live in a nice little suburb, our local drug store got robbed. The robber was actually there twice. The first day he intended to commit the theft, my Mother happened to be in line ahead of him. There was one more person in front of her. When the first person left, my Mother asked the girl behind the counter to come down to the photo counter to help her. That was when she noticed the man behind her get very irritated, curse under his breath and leave the store.

She told me about the strange incident when she returned home. She said when she turned to look at the man, he quickly pulled his baseball cap down over his eyes. She thought she should say something to the girl that worked there, but decided she did not want the girl to think she was just a paranoid old lady.

The next night on the news, we saw the story of our drug store being robbed that day. The store security camera showed the man, however, he had his hat pulled down and was hard to identify. Mom said she was sure it was the same man. He was even wearing the same clothes and hat. She went down to the store and told them to look at the video from the day before, and showed them the time on her receipt. Luckily as he had to wait in line, he did not keep his head down the whole time and they were able to identify him. Way to go Mom! Just another reason she is my hero.

When she asked for the stun gun for Christmas, I didn’t even think of telling her no.

Don’t **** us, but we feel that we have the family thing figured out. Besides our good relationships with our children, we have a great marriage.

Despite many ups and downs financially, we are still madly in love. Once we came into a lot of money, and through mostly our own ignorance, we lost everything after a while.

Sometimes we have in-law problems. We’ve had to deal with death in the family. Our 18 year old lost one of his best friends in a car crash about 6 months ago. That was really hard to deal with. I have anxiety problems .

And yet we are always there for each other. We’re in this together and learning how to compromise is huge.

So, while we really enjoy writing novels together. We like this avenue to try to help others that may need it. A happy family life is one of the greatest blessings you can have.
