What Are The Different Types Of Non-Lethal, Self-Defense Products

February 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

Lets begin with the purpose of carrying a self-defense product. Statistics reveal that property crimes have fallen while violent crimes continue to rise. Violent crimes include murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault. This is personal! It is most unfortunate that in this day and age we have to continually look over our shoulder. However, we do. The key to self-protection is Prevention. One way Prevention can be obtained is through the carry and use of a non-lethal self-defense product. By this, I mean carrying Mace, pepper spray, a personal alarm or a stun device, which can not only save your life but can play a huge role in the Prevention of a crime. Before the crime is committed… Prevent it! If an assailant sees that you carry some type of self-defense product, they might think twice before proceeding to commit the crime.

There are many types of self-defense products on the market today. There are a variety of pepper sprays that come in various strengths and sizes. There are also a good variety of personal alarms and stun devices, such as stun guns.

Mace and/or pepper spray comes in strengths from a 2% to 18% OC solution. OC is the main ingredient in defensive sprays. It is a derivative of the cayenne pepper, the hottest pepper in the world. However, the strength of the defensive spray does not necessarily mean that the higher percentage of OC in a spray…. the hotter. On the contrary, the OC percentage is a measurement relative to the other ingredients in the canister, such as tear gas or UV dye. The OC concentration does not measure the concentration of the other active ingredients in the spray. The effectiveness of a defensive spray is the quantity or concentration of Capsaicin. The higher the concentration of Capsaicin the hotter the OC spray. Defensive sprays also come in different sizes and types. The most popular type is the quick key release keychain pepper spray. One of the newest is the lipstick pepper spray. It looks like a lipstick container, however it is not. There are defensive sprays you can carry in your purse, on your keychain or on your belt. There are sprays with a leatherette holster, or sprays with a hard case or injection-molded holster. There is even a container that resembles a small baton. The sizes can be various as well. You can get ½ oz., 2 oz., 4 oz., and even larger canisters of spray (spray, foam, stream or gel). Check with your locality or jurisdiction for restrictions and legality of defensive sprays.

There are a variety of personal alarms as well. There is the Mace Brand Screecher Alarm, which is an aerosol alarm that emits an ear-piercing blast that is recognized as an emergency call for help and can be heard up to ½ mile away. The best deterrent is the combination of a 125db alarm and a flashing light, known as the Keychain Alarm. There is the 2N1 Alarm, which is a dual-purpose alarm that acts as a personal alarm and a burglar alarm. You’ve got the Personal Alarm With Flashlight that emits 130db of sound and the Electronic Pocket Whistle, which emits a loud 120db whistle.

Stunning devices are also very popular. However, some states have restrictions regarding the possession and/or purchase of these products. Before purchasing a stun gun you need to check with your locality or jurisdiction to see what or if any restrictions apply. Stunning devices can mean stun guns or tasers. Stun guns come in a variety of sizes and voltages. They come as small as the palm of your hand or as large as 8.75 inches tall. Voltages range from 100,000 volts to 1,000,000 volts. Almost all stun guns have safety switches and wrist straps. Tasers are a little more difficult to explain as far as the operation and legality of the unit. Most tasers have restrictions similar to stun guns. That is because it is considered a stunning device just like a stun gun. Again, check your locality for restrictions and legality.

There you have it. Now what type of pepper spray, personal alarm or stun gun would you choose? It can be difficult with all of the different types, strengths, sizes, sounds and voltages. Choose the self-defense product you think you will be most comfortable using, carrying and/or wearing. Again, do not forget to check with your locality or jurisdiction regarding the restriction and/or legality of defensive sprays and stunning devices.

Crime Rates Increase As Unemployment Increases – Need For Self Defense Products

September 13th, 2009 admin No comments
The job reports were released today and once again hundreds of thousands of new unemployment claims. Some people will tell you that the recession is slowing because the new monthly unemployment cases have decreased over the last few months. Do these so called economists think the American public is a bunch of idiots? We are in the midst of the worst recession since the great depression. Even worse, we have more and more people turning to crime. Our streets are less safe, our homes are less safe, and the truth is it will get worse before getting better.

Let’s take a common sense approach to this. The US unemployment rate increased from 8.9% to 9.4% for the month ending May 2009. That’s 787,000 new unemployment claims in the month of May and a total of over 14,500,000 million total unemployed persons in the United States. Now add in the job losses coming as a result of GM and Chrysler. We will soon experience jobless rates that surpass 10 percent. The mere thought of this is staggering.

History implies that if income levels decline crime rates in general go up. I am concerned for the safety and well being of our citizens. Many are predicting that we will see spikes in crime that have never been experienced before. If history is an accurate indicator violent crimes will increase nearly 2 percentage points for each 1 percent increase in unemployment.

If other factors are added in the crime rates increase even more.

A community with a young population and ones that have drug abuse problems Where gangs exist, violent crime is substantially higher

Nearly 15,000,000 people in America are jobless and less than a year ago the majority had good paying, long term jobs. These people have families. The have husbands, wives and children. Bills still need to be paid, food still needs to be placed on the table. Think about this for a minute, if you were in this situation how would you handle it. I don’t know that you can answer the question, unless you’ve experienced the stress and pressure of being in this type situation.

Some will turn to crime as a means of attempting to provide for their families. The end result means more homicides, more burglaries, more home invasions, etc. How will you defend your home and family. In today’s society self defense in crucial, it is a necessity. Non-lethal self defense products can provide an excellent line of defense. Best of all, they are non lethal; meaning no long term injury or effects.

Yes you can go get a handgun and the training necessary to effectively use it. The problem is, if you own one you have to be willing to use it and except the potential consequences that come along with pulling the trigger. Now consider instead buying a TASER device or a good pepper spray? The effects of both are almost instant and your intent is not (or should not) be to kill anyone; only to stop them long enough to get to safety.

Chances are good that the community you live in is suffering from tough economic times. As a direct result your community will see more criminal activity. How do you plan to make yourself and family less appealing crime targets. This can be done easily and involves awareness and preparation. At your residence or business, how secure are your entry points. Are your doors and windows secured with an alarm device? Do you have security stickers on the windows. If you door or window were opened would you be alerted with so type of “chime” or “beep” notification?

Ever considered starting or joining a neighborhood watch organization? This is a great way to create a safe community. Involvement with police or sheriffs offices are a great idea. First, you are letting law enforcement know that they have a partner or ally in you. Second, the resources available thorough these organizations is “priceless”. Ask them to come out and speak to you or organization a safety. All of these are awareness builders and smart ways to increase community safety and deter criminals.

Protect yourself From Crime With a Cell Phone Stun Gun

Article written by: Brandi Wheeler

What would you do if someone was robbing you while walking down the street? What would you do if you were about to be *****? What would you do if someone was stealing from your business? What would you do to defend yourself from an attacker?

You may be thinking that this could never happen to you, but according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, an estimated 1,417,745 violent crimes occurred nationwide in 2006. When data for 2006 to 2005 were compared, the estimated volume of violent crime increased 1.9 percent. Therefore, according to these statistics, it is more likely for you to be a victim of a violent crime.

Hopefully you will never be a victim of a crime, but let’s say you are…what would you do to protect yourself? Would you call the police if you could or scream for HELP? Would you pull out your pistol or hand gun, if you had one, to defend yourself? Do you know self defense maneuvers? These are all great ideas, but what if you can’t do these things or you don’t have any kind of protection?

A unique and powerful way to stop someone in their tracks, but is not fatal, is a cell phone stun gun. This stun gun looks just like a cell phone so a perpetrator may be less aware that you are about to plug him with 950,000 volts of electricity through his or her body. With this shock, it will stop anyone dead in their tracks. Then this would buy you time to call 911 on your ‘real phone’ or cry out for HELP. If the perpetrator tries to get up, then you can easily shock him again, but it is doubtful he or she will try to rob, steal, attack or **** again.

This cell phone stun gun is not fatal compared to a hand gun, pistol, shot gun or knife. It is small enough to keep in your purse or pocket. Being that the stun gun looks just like a cell phone, no one would really know what it is until you show them or tell them.
